What days are best for a child for nursery?

My 3 year old is due to start nursery and I am unsure what days to put her down for. I'm lucky enough to not have gone back to work yet so no work commitments. My DD has seperation anxiety so I know it will be tough for us at first. I'm just not sure what would be best for her, to do 3 mornings in a row or spread them out over the week? Any advice appreciated!

I would do in a row to keep the consistency

Aprilwasverywet · 07/05/2021 22:35

My ds went Monday /Wednesday /Fri.
Tues was cafe morning and Thurs was Market day!
I miss those sneaky breakfasts!

dementedpixie · 07/05/2021 22:38

Mine went 5 mornings a week

rach2713 · 07/05/2021 22:40

Can you ask the nursery for a couple of settling in days to see if he will like the 3 days or 5 days. He may be fine once he's there playing with other children. My daughter has separation anxiety and I was worried she wouldn't but after her settling in days she was fine went in no bother ..

rach2713 · 07/05/2021 22:41

I'm sorry I put he instead of she ..

GreenandPinkFlowers · 07/05/2021 23:08

I would do 3 in a row. I work in a nursery and I've found it's usually easier for children to settle if their days aren't spaced too far apart.

TedHastingsweeDonkey · 08/05/2021 00:05

DS goes two days in a row. Not Monday as I don't particularly fancy paying for all the bank holiday closures 🤭

insancerre · 08/05/2021 07:50

I work in a nursery and recommend three days in a row for consistency

Apple40 · 08/05/2021 09:26

I would do all days in a row as does help them to settle in, and if possible avoid Mondays and Fridays so you don’t end up paying for bank holidays when the nursery will be closed .

winniesanderson · 08/05/2021 09:51

I work in a nursery and would do two in a row and a stand alone session. Otherwise there's always going to be a big four day gap between sessions which can be a long time for little ones. Little and often can work really well to begin with. Id also ask which sessions are quieter if you think that will make a difference and don't have to work around certain days. Some days are normally more popular than others.

Tumbleweed101 · 08/05/2021 18:27

Maybe asked the nursery which are quieter sessions or which might have the most children closest to her in age so she is playing with children reaching the same development milestones to build friendships with.

Most three year olds settle quite quickly, easier than two year olds, generally speaking.

Mysterian · 08/05/2021 20:07

Quieter days tend to be Monday and Friday. I'd go for those and one other.

Findahouse21 · 08/05/2021 20:09

Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Then not too long without a day at home but not too long without a nursery day either.

I was told this, but my DS didn't like it as he missed Mummy too much, plus I found he was tired from the rush getting up and out. My DD will do Monday & Friday mornings when she starts. I found with DS Fridays are generally quieter so I liked that, I know it's the end of the week, but I think hopefully then it's more relaxed.

I suppose it depends if your child like routine or not?

imgoingtoregretthis · 08/05/2021 23:12

My DS did Thursday & Friday.

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 23:15

Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday otherwise you’ll be paying for all the bank holidays and not get to use them.

17bluebirds · 09/05/2021 06:04

UhtredRagnarson, bit all nurseries charge for bank Holidays.

Anyway, it sounds like OP will be just using the free hours, so no costs involved.

17bluebirds · 09/05/2021 06:05

*NOT all nurseries...

Onceuponatime1818 · 09/05/2021 06:30

I would do tue, wed and thurs , and then if you go away for weekends ect she won’t miss any sessions.

That’s good. I’ve never found one that didn’t.
