What's normal

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice. My hubby picked our 3 year old up from nursery today and he was really dirty and wet, to the point even his feet were dirty. They have outdoor clothes and wellies for him and a spare change so concerned as to why he was this dirty. There has been issues in the past where random outdoor clothes have been put on him and also children's getting other people's clothes in. Is it normal for a child to come out of nursery like this? Should I be saying something?

Hi @pandawish30

I've worked in a nursery for 13 years, and sent one of my DC to private nursery, so have seen both sides of the coin... I would not have found it acceptable for a child to be sent home like this, whether it was my own child or someone else's. If there was a reason (eg just come in from the garden/no time to change/child took wellies off in garden etc) then I'd be inclined to be reasonable, but if no reason is given I would mention it to someone. HTH xx

Thanks so much for the reply, usually they mention if he was playing inside and got wet or something like that but nothing this time. You know what kids are like you try and ask them and they don't say much lol. I must admit though I'm starting to get annoyed with them, first of all not putting his clothes on, he's also came out wet a couple of times aswell.

Xx

I wouldn't be happy either, especially if they were wet going home. It's not good practice and I'm pretty sure the manager wouldn't be happy if they knew. I think sometimes people think you're ok with it if you don't mention anything, but I would mention it if I were you. Maybe low key at first and then to the manager if there was no improvement. Hugs and commiserations from one (ex) nursery mum to another!!
