Unhappy with nursery but not long left

DC leaves his current nursery in July and is off to preschool. Had some issues with the nursery in the past, particularly around their recklessness with his coeliac and him being given unsafe foods on 3 occasions. We remained at the nursery however as all other local nurseries were full and after a large investigation, it was unlikely that it would happen again as new measures were put in place. He was also happy and settled at the time.

A new manager came in 12 months ago and I've seen a big decline in communication, there is also a member of staff in his particular room who I suspect has an alcohol problem after a few things I've heard from locals in the area and after seeing her stumbling about myself at weekends.

He was poorly last week and I forgot to let the nursery know that he wouldn't be in on that particular day, but I had no phone call, no message, nothing to ask if he was ok or why he wasn't in.

He only attends 2 days a week, so part of me is thinking, just keep going a little longer, he doesn't need the upheaval of a new nursery. He doesn't love nursery but doesn't mind it either. Another part of me just doesn't feel happy about dropping him off there anymore.

I'm not sure what to do?

So the food issue has been resolved? That would be the only reason to move him IMO.

Poor communication is annoying. Technically they should have chased up the absence but it’s not the end of the world.
Gossip about a staff member seems irrelevant.

Thankyou.
Food issue has been completely resolved.
It just doesn't feel like the nurturing environment it once was. I would say that the concerns around the member of staff is a bit more than gossip. I only know things having asked a few people after seeing her stumbling around the village drunk myself. She looks awful everyday I see her.

They should have chased the absence. Standard policy. If they can’t do this, they’ll be cutting corners elsewhere too. I’d have removed him after the food incidents and reported them to Ofsted. That’s absolutely despicable!
