Should I keep at home or send to nursery

We are new to nursery my soon to be 3 year old started nursery 2 weeks ago. He caught a cold, he's been very snotty and chesty the last few days, he has developed a reproductive cough today.
He's due to go to nursery in 2 days time. I'm hoping he'll be better by then but if not should he still go in? He's not got a temperature and is well in himself.

My nursery won’t allow continuous coughs at the moment ( for good reason ).

They request if a cough develops to monitor them for 24 hours first to see if it’s a continuous cough/gets worse . If it does then we must self isolate for 10 days or get Covid tested. If the cough isn’t continuous or doesn’t get worse then they can go to nursery . Obviously only they are well and with no fever .

It’s worth dropping an email to your nursery to see what their policy is .

Can you get him a test today? My nursery doesn't allow children in with coughs of any sort at the moment unless they have a negative COVID test.

Imissthegym · 26/04/2021 14:28

Have you had him tested?

Where I am the guidance has changed for schools and early years to include a wider variety of symptoms. Those would definitely merit a test before he could go back.

StrawberryLemonade · 26/04/2021 14:32

He shouldn’t go anywhere until he’s had a covid swab. If that’s negative, then fine.

SummerHouse · 26/04/2021 14:32

You need to test anyway and keep him off till you have a negative result.

HazeyJaneII · 26/04/2021 14:34

He needs to have a pcr test.

DarcyLewis · 26/04/2021 14:36

Where have you been the last year? Cough = isolate & test.

CornishGem1975 · 26/04/2021 14:38

We're allowed in with coughs (or else they would have no children there to be fair) but not a temperature. However, as this is a new symptom, I would get a test today. PCR test results will come back tomorrow and if all is hunkydory, he can go to nursery as normal.

Wow, hope someone reports them for breaking the guidelines! No wonder all the kids have coughs Hmm
CornishGem1975 · 26/04/2021 15:48

@DarcyLewis If it's not a new continuous cough then surely it's not against guidelines? My son has had a cough pretty much permanently since January. I'm not going to not send him to nursery or COVID test them three times a week.

DinoHat · 26/04/2021 15:53

Get him a PCR test and see how he is in two days.

If you’re saying that children with permanent coughs are not expected to keep testing, that is quite different from “being allowed in with coughs”.
Bit strange the nursery is full of children with long term coughs though - lots of asthma??

lobster12 · 26/04/2021 21:24

Thanks for your replies, I'm going to get him tested tomorrow. He actually hasn't coughed since I posted this morning, I think he just had a lot of gunk on his chest from his sleep that he needed to clear. He seems fine now just snotty. Il give the nursery a ring too.

@EgSk
Your nursery are breaking guidence if a child has a new or worsening cough you need to isolate and test straight away not wait not everyone with covid will have a worsening of a cough and some will improve

Should I keep at home or send to nursery
EgSk · 02/05/2021 20:24

@jannier I think I worded that badly in my sleep deprived state 🤦‍♀️ I attached our exact rules .
