Are you still sending your child to nursery?

I'm a teacher and lone parent wfh. I've decided to take my DD out of nursery because we are both asthmatic, I just can't take the risk. I have decided to continue to pay the nursery as I don't want to lose my place and I know they are receiving no support from government.....plus my job is secure so I can pay. A lot of parents are taking their kids out (of my nursery) and a few have said they won't pay from next month (some can't afford it with situations changing) I'm really worried the nursery will go under, it's a life line for me. The staff are amazing! I wanted to know if it's the same across the board? If so surely the government will have to do something? Or we will have no nurseries once this is all over, and a lot more people out of work. What do you think guys?

Youngest is still going to nursery (one of four in the room/bubble). Middle child, who usually goes to nursery, is staying home along with eldest, who is usually at school. I’m a key worker so technically my eldest could be at school but wfh and homeschooling is stretching my stress levels as it is and I don’t feel it’s safe or fair to send into school.

Nursery is currently open as usual but I feel I can still cope with wfh and homeschooling with middle child. Adding youngest to the mix would make things so difficult. We’d manage if they close nurseries but would rather not in the meantime.

My 4yo and 2yo are in full-time. DH is a keyworker but I'm the main breadwinner and couldn't work with small one at home.

As a nursery nurse I'd say that keeping your child at home if you can is the right choice.

We've had two confirmed cases this week. Neither of them needed to attend to allow their parents to work. Both sets of parents say their households have been nowhere else so must have caught it from the nursery, assuming from an asymptotic child. There are now 7 staff and around 30 children having to isolate. Lots of those children will have key worker parents who now can't work. That's without considering how many of them, and their family members, will now be infected. Or whether any of them could end up seriously unwell.

It's also meant that staff are having to mix bubbles which obviously increases the risks.

Yes sending ds in
He’s 4 and goes 4 days a week while I’m at work
Dh is now furloughed and home schooling eldest who is 9 so may review this if needed

KnobJockey · 18/01/2021 08:16

@anxiousturtle that's exactly why it's daft to send in unless it's necessary. Those parents are increasing the risk to key workers, for housework in peace or socialisation of a nursery child.

This is bloody spot on!

(And I’m someone who’s been keeping my 3 nearly 4 year old off of nursery!) i 100% agree with this! I also agree that nurseries should be shut, and dominos and cafes and the effing pound shop!! I’m not an expert in the slightest, BUT if these types of things had been shut down last year along with schools..nurseries etc ... and had a 100% LOCKDOWN stay-in-your-home-or-else type of approach for 4-6 weeks max... surely the virus would have had no chance to survive for very long. Yes it would have affected several other things negatively but hasn’t it anyway?! Dragging this out is ridiculous and quite frankly boring and exhausting the lot of us! Now I know Australia have a much smaller population BUT yesterday I giggled their covid updates and it said +3 new cases of covid.

THREE. FFS! They close their boarders for a start!

googled!!

We didn't send our 3 year old daughter as I'm nearly due in a week so I was in my last trimester. Really glad as they've been isolating twice because of 2 confirmed cases.
