Bright Horizons

Anyone has sent their child there? It seems like a big chain. Where I am, it's all very new and I am sending my little one two mornings as of the first week in October, he will be 20 months.

I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. Very money orientated.

WhatTimeIsItl · 07/09/2020 22:06

Agree with @Bluespace

jasmine867 · 08/09/2020 11:20

I'm pulling my child out as my little one has developmental issues which they've not addressed once.

ScottishMummy12 · 11/09/2020 05:42

Personally I removed my daughter from a bright horizons nursery and would never use them again. They don't seem to care about the children as an individual. It's all about the money for them and how many kids they can get in a room.

ChangingStates · 11/09/2020 06:05

My 2 both went to bright horizons- it was over 5 years ago now though. I would say they weren't great at the educational development but staff were lovely and both girls had happy, positive experiences in the 3 years plus they were each there.

Jessy2903 · 28/09/2020 20:13

Currently in the process of moving my daughter from a bright horizons.
They have gone down hill since being closed due to COVID.
Staff don't seem to have a clue what is going on, they got rid of the chef and now staff are expected to cook- half of them can't even cook so dinner is constantly cheesy crumpets or sandwiches!
High turn over of management staff.
Not happy at all.

Mysterian · 29/09/2020 10:28

Many are pretty good. Some aren't. They've expanded by buying up other chains and nurseries so quality depends a lot on what the nursery was before BH took over. On the whole they're towards the lower end of the market. Above Busy Bees.

Busy Bees: 350 nurseries, somehow.
Bright Horizons: 315 nurseries.
Next biggest: 60 nurseries.

Crazymadame · 29/09/2020 10:33

My daughter was really happy at a bright horizons nursery for 4 years. She just left. I think you have to take each one on it's own merit. The staff were lovely at our nursery and took a real interest in the children. But like all big organisations it depends on the local manager and staff as to how they operate.

You will know if your nursery is any good if they can talk about your child with feeling and you sense they actually know and take an interest in them. Eg they know the things they're interested in and like doing/ their personality etc.

MosiMaya · 30/09/2020 12:45

Bearing in mind the above opinions, has anyone had any experience with the North Sheen branch, please? It's a very convenient location for us, but based on the Google reviews and the above, not quite sure whether we should go ahead... We have a 3-year old and were thinking of starting her in this nursery in January.

addictedtotheflats · 30/09/2020 12:47

I viewed one and it was hideous. The environment was so bland and not very stimulating at all

My brother & wife looked at the local one and they had all natural colours and wooden everything. No colours or plastic toys they said they don't "do those" Confused
PrimalLass · 02/10/2020 19:36

My son was at a Bright Horizons in Edinburgh. He left 10 years ago but we loved it then.

coffeeforone · 12/10/2020 23:11

I think it depends on the individual nursery, and how good it was before BH took over.

Pl242 · 19/10/2020 14:19

Had a good experience at two BH nurseries. You need to look at the one/s in your area individually. They will often have been independent or part of smaller chains before being taken over.

Ammari515253 · 22/10/2020 20:47

My daughter is currently at a Bright Horizons nursery and loves it. You definitely have to look at each nursery as with such a big chain there are bound to be differences between locations and I have also heard not so great things about other Bright Horizons in other areas..The one I send my daughter to is full of activities and is bright and spacious. The nursery manager is really good and there has been little staff turnover. I have been to some much smaller independent nurseries and was shocked to see how some were run. You really need to go on your gut feeling and more importantly how you feel your child will fit into that particular nursery.

HeeeeyDuggee · 22/10/2020 20:51

My eldest went to a BH and it was fanatic.
Lovely warm nurturing environment. I would recommend them based on my experience (south west)

Howwilliknow33 · 22/10/2020 20:52

Had to remove DD from a Bright horizons nursery last year. Try Busy Bees. Such a lovely chain of nurseries.

Welcome to Mumsnet.

Funny turn of phrase there. Saying the chain is lovely rather than a particular nursery. How many do you have experience of?

claire0899 · 16/05/2021 20:59

Which nursery is this so I know to avoid?

Vanannabananna · 16/05/2021 21:05

Our old nursery was taken over bright horizons 6 months before my son left to go to school. We felt the nurturing environment changed and staff turnover got much much higher, brilliant manager left. However they are a large chain so I’d go and see it if possible and make your own mind up as each one is different.

Bananacocks · 16/05/2021 21:09

They are horrible places to work hence the high staff turnover.

claire0899 · 17/05/2021 20:51

Agreed. I currently work in a terrible one

tiredoftiers · 17/05/2021 20:54

I’m unhappy with our current nursery. It seems to have gone downhill dramatically through covid. If my dc didn’t have only a few weeks left, I’d have pulled them out.
Previously it was an Asquith nursery which I was much happier with.

Lazypuppy · 23/05/2021 22:14

Great up until pre school, then not very good with educational stuff. The staff were brilliant

dhuygu · 28/10/2021 17:07

Hello. Has anyone sent their kids to Bright Horizons Brentford branch? Do you recommend it?
