£1000 deposit?

As the title suggests, I have found a nursery that suits our needs very much so and as I was filling out forms prices that they require a £1000 refundable deposit upon a 1 month's notice.

Is this amount normal? I don't remember forking out this much last time we signed up to a diff nursery!

We signed up to two -,one was £50 and one was £100 non refundable deposit. Do they at least knock it off your fees or something? Guess it’s to stop you doing what we did with the two nurseries?

SqidgeBum · 16/06/2020 21:40

Our nursery asked for a deposit of £1000 pounds too, which was a months fees. We had it taken off our first month with them. It was so much money, but it was such a good nursery so I am happy now that we did it

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 16/06/2020 21:42

We also paid that as it's a months fees.
We had it taken off our first months payment too.

Apple40 · 16/06/2020 22:39

Is it that a months fees? If so do they keep it until you leave or does it cover first months fees? As a childminder my deposits are held until they leave my care, it covers me for non payments which sadly a lot of parents think they don’t need to pay for final months care or for any notice period. They basically lose there deposit if they don’t pay me. ( At contract signing they sign to say they understand this)

purpleme12 · 16/06/2020 22:55

Oh my god all ours have been a set amount flat fee. And £100 at the most!!

jannier · 17/06/2020 09:48

It's so you dont decide at the last minute not to use them leaving them with no income while they find a replacement generally a months money. Otherwise you get people booking spaces in several settings some going as far as staggering start dates s they can try before they commit and some never tell you they are not coming just never turn up

DinoGreen · 17/06/2020 20:20

We had to pay £500 deposit for DS, on top of the first month’s fees in advance, they hold onto it until you leave! Which in our case is 4 years later, we’ll get it back soon!

jadealisha · 04/07/2020 03:50

@DinoGreen mine was the same! 50% of a months fee as deposit plus a months in advance so close to £1,500. Out you get starts there soon but I've gotten quite chummy with one of the nursery directors so we thankfully don't need to pay a deposit for our youngest and we get a 20% discount off our oldest monthly fee. 😅 still obviously have to pay a month in advance also

Minkies13 · 04/07/2020 04:23

We paid £1000 deposit and get it back after DD leaves nursery. Have to give 3 months notice if intending to leave.
