9month old (crawling) put in bouncy chair "for comfort"

When I returned after leaving my ds at nursery for the first time (for 1 hour) as part of his settling in I found him strapped into a bouncy chair . I am not sure if he was crying before I got there as he had his back to the window of the door but he seemed sad and confused when I got to him.

He had fallen over (which is fine) and cried and did not want to be held so a member of staff put him in a vibrating chair to calm him down. Although there were three staff in the room and about four babies nobody was sitting with him.

I didn't say that I was upset at the time because I was confused.

Am I right in thinking that it is dangerous for a baby that can crawl/cruise to be put in a bouncy chair?

Am I right to be upset that the nursery find this to be the best way to comfort a baby who is able to crawl?

I stopped putting DD (8 months) in her bouncy chair about a month ago when she could lean so far that I thought it would tip.

So, yes, I agree with you. Tell them. You are the person paying for their service and I am assuming that they could have put your baby on a playmat with some pillows/cushions around.

Have you thought about using a childminder instead of a nursery. Your baby will get more of a one to one care.

I care for a 4 month old and have used a bouncy chair when we have been at baby group. The chair says on it that it is suitable until baby can sit. So I would say it is unsuitable for a typical 9 month old.

From what you have put, there seems to be a lack of interaction from the staff with your son. If he refused to be held by any staff, surely he could have just crawled around the room at his leisure.

yes, it is dangerous for babies to be in bouncy chairs once they can sit unaided.
I left my ds in one and he tipped it right over by leaning forwards and bashed his head.

My DS is 9 months and we are looking at nurseries at the moment. This would ring big alarm bells with me and makes me feel quite . Are there any other options you could look at?
