Sending back to nursery

My 3.5 year old is going back next week. She is so excited to see her friends but I feel so anxious about it. Part of me wants to keep her at home with me and baby and husband is working from home, but the other part of me think she needs the social interaction with other children and is so bored at home.
Most of my friends are not sending their children back so keeping thinking I am doing the wrong thing!

My LO has gone back two half days, just for the social interaction!

DS2 (4) went back to preschool on Monday. Compared to us both working FT while he pootled around the house it’s much better for him (and is). He’s a much happier boy for it.

I sent my LO back this week for a couple of days. He absolutely loved it. For us, it was the right thing to do.

My 3 year old DD has done 4 days this week and had the best time! It's a small nursery and only has 50% of the children in at present. She's always loved nursery but this week she's been getting herself dressed before the rest of the house is awake in eager anticipation to go

My 3.5 year old has been back full time this week and the difference in her is amazing. She has had a great week and is back to her old self.

It has made working from home a lot easier as well! Happiness all round.

Could anyone please help me. My 18month old son has been attending a private nursery since he was 9th months, and he loves it and we are very much happy with the staff and how they've been with my son. However since the COVID 19 pandemic, they have now created a new policy which states that should the government request all nurseries/schools ect to close again - they nursery would still expect 100% fees throughout. I personally find this scandless as I feel they are making profit off other people misfortune. Has anyone else had this from nurseries? If we don't pay, we then loose his place and not guaranteed a place in future. I'm torn. But financially cannot afford to pay for a service we would simply not be getting.
If there was a holding fee of even 20% I could appreciate that and would consider paying, but 100% of the cost. Is this even legal? Please help. TIA

That's a hard one many settings are having to do this because they cant survive another lockdown...they were struggling before covid many wont make it through another shut down will be the end.

I do understand that, but this particular nursery has remained open for key workers and most vulnerable. Some staff have been put on the furlough scheme but many others still being paid to support during COVID 19. I just find it so difficult, because they are a great nursery and I would want my little one to return, but I also will be financially strained having to pay this. Sorry to come across negative, I really do appreciate all the work they do for us families and it would be dreadful not having such services.

Just a thought but things will not be the same as they were pre covid. If you were told a sniper was on the streets taking pot shots would you send you child out? Most nurseries are doing their best, but no one can predict how this will affect anyone

Being open for key workers etc does not make it go into profit. They will have lost money from fee paying non attendees, funding is less than break even in most cases. Rates, insurance etc still to pay. Not all were eligible to use furlough and in the future if they cant fully reopen and stay that way they have to find 20% of furloughed wages. My daughters nursery normally has 30 spaces they have had between 9 and 11 in this week but still had to pay 5 staff as well as full rent insurance utilities extra cleaning ppe etc. They are not profiting from shut down and it would be better to be shut but then all revenue would be removed and key workers could not have worked.

Absolutely, fully aware of this and they are crucial to all key working families and families that require such service like myself. The concern I have is the 100% fee if they are asked to close again due to covid. Lots of other nurseries are not asking the same, and yes I then have the choice of looking elsewhere but I'm mearly trying to estinguish if it is legal for them to do this.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make here. I'm not saying that nurseries are doing a bad job or that I want to send my child back straight away. I'm just trying to gather information if other people are having the same issues.
