Going back?

Basically, I work in a nursery and the plan is to re-open on the 1st of June depending on the situation. I have been off work since the beginning of November due to mat leave and the plan was to put both my children in nursery when I go back (my 3yr old went previously but we decided to take him out while I was on mat leave.) My question is if you had the choice (I am lucky to have the option as my mum/brother can look after them) would you keep them off because of Covid-19 even after lockdown has ended?
My reasoning is there is absolutely no way that they can keep the kids apart at a nursery and , however if I am going there everyday anyway is it pointless?

Don't forget the childcare provision is emergency care for key workers who have no other option.. if you have people who can look after your children that is far better.

I'm talking about when lockdown ends, not right now..

I'd take them, because for how long will your relatives want to have them both each day? For a year, two years for vaccine?

One day they have to go to school there may never be a vaccine. Maybe they can have them 1 /2 days a week assuming they are happy with the risks.

I'll be sending DD as soon as hers reopens, the risk is small enough for our household that we're happy to take it. Since you're going to be there anyway, I would be inclined to send them. But wouldn't blame you if you decided otherwise.

I think your nursery might be naive to be thinking of 1 June though (although I'd love it if they were right!).

Ireland announced their plans last night. Nurseries will reopen for keyworkers on 29 June, and not for everyone else til 20 July, and that's only one day a week to start.

If you are there anyway then seems pointless to not send children

Chicken pox was recorded 100s of years ago, so was measles. People thinking this virus will just go away is ridiculous. This virus is here to stay. Children are being infected and no one knows how it will affect them. If family can keep them safe at home why would anyone be happy to risk their child's life?
