Coronavirus - Nursery

Hi all,

I have just seen on a social media post that the manager for my sons nursery has gone away to Europe for the weekend.. not sure where..

Is this cause for concern? I personally think it is, surely no one should be travelling, let alone those that work in a school environment?

Am I being over the top? Thoughts please...

I'd be fuming if they then came back to the nursery....

Unless they’ve been to somewhere where they are supposed to self isolate when they come back and fail to do so, they haven’t done anything wrong.

But you don’t know where it is they have gone? If it’s Italy, France, Spain etc then I understand but what if it’s a country like Russia where they have a lot less cases than over here?

How did you find out the information if it’s a teacher? Do you know them socially?

My info is 100% reliable. They are a friend of one of my friends and just seen it on social media. Also just noticed on GOV page that Portugal is on alert list!

Tbh if your child is only nursery age I’d be withdrawing anyway. I wish I could do that with mine. However bojo thinks we can’t cope being at home so schools are open ( but that’s a whole other thread!).

How long has the teacher gone for? Have you got holidays where you are?

I just noticed it was American 🙈 my friend sent me the link. Although, it's still really worrying. I'm in Hertfordshire.

The thing is I'm a single mama and can't afford to take him out. I mean I can but it will leave us in a struggle. Has it come to that?

I'm all for pulling him out when the time comes.. are we there yet?

@sophiegoesgreen it’s such a worry isn’t it. I think if they are not closed by the end of the week I’ll be taking mine out anyway and just ring up each day. I don’t care if I’ve got to say they’ve got athletes foot or scabies!

How has the teacher managed to go though if it’s not school holidays anyway?

It’s the weekend!
Plus it’s nursery, not school, nursery staff can have holiday whenever they want, they are not tied to school holidays in private nurseries

@insancerre I was only asking because @sophiegoesgreen asked whether she should tell the school in the op which would suggest it’s a school nursery rather than a private one. I was wondering whether they may be going to see a relative or some emergency.

@insancerre Also I know it’s the weekend but to be fair Portugal is a bit of a trek for two nights!

It's a private nursery.. just going on holiday.. not to visit relatives.

To be fair, Portugal isn't the worst.. and it's probably just the same as being here I guess. just thinking it's irresponsible for someone in that type of job to go.

I’m a teacher and I went to London last weekend. If you’re looking at cases, London was probably worse. I still taught all my classes last week.

It's not the staff you should be concerned about. Some parents are giving their children calpol to mask the temperature and then sending them in, just so they don't have to take time off. It really makes me angry!

After thinking heavy on this ... I've come to the conclusion that it's just as bad here as there, unfortunately.

I still sent him in, but I have decided to make the decision to isolate from my parents, who are both over 75 and not the best health.

At this stage I'm thinking of taking him out when the schools close.
