Don't know what to do now, don't want dd going back to that horrible place!

New on this board but just thought I would share what horrible sight I saw today when I picked my little girl up.
She's 9 months, wee soul, and has just recently been given medicine for asthma (coughs terribly when lying down/sleeping). Was fine at first when dropped off at nursery, in fact smiling and happy to go to the workers, when she started but over the past few weeks has been very upset when I drop her off. Not been keen on the nursery and have been planning to put her on the waiting list for another and today makes me want to just take her out right now.
Dp and I both went to pick her up and one of the girls said she was sleeping in the other room. Took a peep in the room and she was in the buggy sleeping, covered completely from head to toe (yes, even her face ) with a very thick blanket. Why on earth she would have even needed a blanket is beyond me as it was very warm today. TV was so loud as well (why is it in the sleeping area?) The girls in the room were acting as if this was normal, just pointed to her pram and said she was under the blanket having a nap! I actually lifted her and woke her up to make sure she was ok. She has asthma for goodness sake and those idiots were covering her face with a very thick blanket.
This is obviously how they put babies to sleep, very disturbed by this. Going to call the care commission tomorrow and formally complain about it. I'm just so upset that I don't have the money yet for a deposit for another nursery. Couldn't afford time off work either and the thought of putting her in there again makes me want to cry. Now we know why she's upset.

Could anyone tell me if I took her out asap would I also have to pay the four weeks notice it says in their booklet. Would really resent paying this but would it stop me getting a placement at another nursery?

Thanks for reading my rant, any advice etc would be appreciated.

I would report the Nursery to Ofsted and Tell them your concerns

hi dee24, have you considered a childminder in the meantime, you know while your waiting for a place at the other nursery. some of them do emergency cover. worth a thought maybe. good luck. ps hope your little girl is ok. x

ooh furious reading that ! That is absolutely positively insane! Blankets over heads ! Are they actually trying to cause cot death? Def do not take her back, and def report them because if thats their way of doing things its seriously dangerous! We all know babies bedding shud be tucked in securely, not too thick etc to avoid over heating for obvious reasons. They obviously took no notice of you informing them of her asthma treatment. Stories like that are heartbreaking and scary. Refuse to pay on these grounds, as they are in wrong and should be ashamed. I'm biased as I'm a c/minder, but personally think nurseries not so good for babies.

take your child out and tell Ofsted.

awful.

Any update on this?

Well my dd has not been back. Looked at another nursery which is highly recommended. It seems really nice, small and cosy with only 6 babies in the baby room. The manager showed me all their inspection reports etc, pointed out the recommendations that were suggested, very honest woman. And no tv anywhere near the baby room! She sat with the other children while I was shown around and seemed happy and content when I came back. I really hope she will be happy there.
Received a letter back from the care commission regarding my letter of complaint which they have picked up several instances of misconduct from. Noise level in sleeping area, inappropriate use of a large blanket on a sleeping child, inappropriate naps for my childs needs, staff awareness of her asthma, no record keeping of her condition. So somebody will be in touch with me soon to discuss these with.
Feel so much better that it is being investigated, hopefully it will stop any other little babies being treated this way.

Well done Dee!! As the owner of a reputable (small) daycare nursery it makes me MAD when I hear of this sort of thing! Trouble is if parents don't take the time to report these things, as you have, these places rarely get closed down.(and therefore tarnish the rest of us with the same brush) Mums have to vote with their feet & leave the bad nurseries(not always easy I do realise) & then they will go out of business. Sadly there are alwasy those parents who spend more time & money on choosing their car or new coat than their childcare & that is why these place flourish. So you did the right thing & hopefully now your babe will be happier & so will you.
