Nursery change - WWYD

My 2 year old is settled at nursery and is just about to change room, all good.

I've got a new job which has childcare on site. They do the tax free childcare which his current nursery does not do.

The pros of moving:
The onsite one is lower fees and tax free, so over the next 12 months would save approx £4k.
I'd spend about 40mins less in traffic each week.
It would be possible to walk to work/nursery in the summer.
There is better outdoor space at this one (more forest school type vibe which I really like)

The cons
Food at current nursery is excellent
He's been there since 7 months so knows the other children well.
Has very good reputation (although we are underwelmed by the customer service skills of the manager and his current key worker is a bit lacking).

Would you move him? The £4k saving would make a massive difference to my bank balance but I can afford the existing fees.

I’d move him in a heartbeat, if not the fees the possibility to walk in the summer and the outdoor space would do it for me.

The cons you list can all be dealt with, and he’ll get to know the other kids soon enough, especially if he’s about to move rooms anyways.

Move

Expressedways · 19/12/2019 17:27

Definitely move

icelollycraving · 19/12/2019 17:27

Definitely move! I moved my Ds from a nursery I really liked to one I wasn’t happy with through big changes of working location. Once I set my standard of what I picked my battles with, I grew to like the new one. I was 5 minutes away in an emergency, which was great.
More time, money and fresh air, it’s a no brained!

OddBoots · 19/12/2019 17:28

oh yes, he will soon settle and the benefits significantly outweigh the downsides.

Looneytune253 · 19/12/2019 17:28

Yes it sounds like a better nursery all round tbh. I would defo move him (obv visit the nursery etc first tho make sure you love it). Children are really adaptable. They make new friends instantaneously! Trust me!! Even when they're older and moaning about struggling they still seem to have lots of friends to play with

Fandabydosey · 20/12/2019 03:59

I would move him. Seems crazy not to.

BikeRunSki · 20/12/2019 04:15

Move!

What is the food and reputation like at the new nursery?!

Sjl479 · 20/12/2019 04:55

Definitely move, can you maybe start with a couple of days a week to ease the transition?

drunkenflamingo2 · 20/12/2019 08:43

Food no where near as good at new nursery but still compliant with the Welsh healthy eating standard, just not as sophisticated.

Reputation average where as the current other is the university nursery and is the best in the area. It doesn't have a very good outdoor space however.

I wouldn’t let 5 meals a week away my decision unless the food was truly terrible. Outdoor space and less travel would be a huge bonus to me.
