Nursery practitioners

Okay, so I decided to post this comment as hopefully a bit of reassurance for parents thinking of sending their child to nursery. I am a nursery practitioner and understand nursery can be a touchy subject to some parents. Is the nursery going to be good enough? Will they look after my child the same way I do? The answer is YES the majority of the time. I’m not saying every childcare setting is good because I’m sure they’re not, but as a parent, viewing the perfect nursery should make you feel 100% comfortable leaving your child in their care. I have 9 key children as a whole and have 4/5 of these in everyday which may seem a lot to some people. However, every child is happy, fed and their needs are met. I adore these children, as do my colleagues with their key children. I know my children’s middle names, birthdays and personal information like the back of my hand. I know their likes and dislikes down to a tee. I know little funny things about them that maybe even their parents haven’t noticed. I know these because I love my job and invest my time in the children. I go the extra mile for my children to ensure they are happy and so are their parents. If your child attends nursery and you feel like this isn’t happening, this isn’t normal and find a new setting. Nursery is a lovely place for your child to experience new things, such as messy play that parents wouldn’t dream of doing at home, trips to the farm / park / aquarium that you may not have time to do yourselves.

I would be really interested to know what your worries are when you think of your child attending nursery? :)

Have to agree.

My 4 year old leaves Nursery in August to start school has been going to the same one since she was 14 months old.

She loves Nursery, and her keyworker like all previous ones know her so well, they can even tell me when she's ill/coming down with something and that's how it should be.

I am actually going to miss dropping her at Nursery from September Sad as i know the care she has received there is second to none.

Op I feel the same as you. On the whole the children I work with are amazing little people who give me enthusiasm for my job and every single one of my colleagues is the same

One of my key children asked his mum for an insancerre for home for his Christmas present
His little sister has just left my care for big school and mum cried on her last day

Can’t get better job satisfaction than that

You sound great, one of my fears is choosing a nursery which turns out to be terrible. Although this is a positive this also makes me sad:

I know little funny things about them that maybe even their parents haven’t noticed.

@Sandybval I think this is purely because we see them in a different light to their parents... Doing different things they might not do at home and getting to know them from a different perspective :)

Yes and it is comforting, just the usual pang of worrying about missing out. Do you have any tips on what to look for when viewing nurseries and what questions to ask?

@sandybval are the children happy, are the staff interacting with them, what activities have been set up and see what they have to offer. Look for things you can’t offer at home! If you decide on a nursery for your child, let their key worker know the standard of care you want for your child and what you want out of the nursery experience. If possible, chat to some of the staff when you look round and it should make you feel at ease :)

Ask about the ratio, how they track child’s development, their sickness policy (or this could sting when your LO gets sent home poorly, some nursery’s won’t give calpol!) X
