Biting

My little one is nearly 2 and was bitten three times in three days last week. The nursery didn't say much but give me an accident form. She is back in tomorrow - what should i do? I know kids bite sometimes but this seems excessive?

We had a biting issue except my child was their biter. Wasn't much fun for anyone concerned. The more experienced staff were better equipped to deal with it but ultimately, he grew out of it. It's worth asking the nursery how they managing biting incidents.

Biters can be incredibly fast. You can remind her key worker that she was bitten 3 times last week, but I'm sure they are already keeping a close eye on the perpetrator.

Three bites in three days should hopefully mean the staff are alerted and on it - looking for warning signs from the biting child, proactive about situations that might cause the biting, etc.

There will be other paperwork involved, incident forms, which would go to the parent of the child that bites, so they're also aware.

Please do speak to her key person when you bring her in next time though, it's worth reiterating it. This is assuming that it's the same child that is biting yours each time - at that age it's really very common, as language is developing and the child is struggling to communicate. It may be that several children in the room are biting.
