Splitting 30 hour funding across 2 settings

Help!

My son goes to a nursery 2 days a week all year round and a preschool 1 day a week in term time only. He is eligible for 30 hours funding from Sept and I have now received the forms to complete...

How do I work out how much each setting can claim?

The nursery is open 7.45am - 6.15pm and charge the full day (even though he only attends 7.45am - 5.15pm) so 10.5 hrs per day, 2 days a week, 51 weeks a year.

The preschool is open for 6 hours, 1 day a week, term time only, 31 weeks per year.

I know I will not be able to claim all this time, but can anyone advise the easiest way to work out who can claim what?

It really depends on your local authority and your nursery policies. Everywhere has their own rules.

You may be able to stretch the nursery funding to all year round, meaning fewer hours a week, but all year. However, not all settings do this.
Also, term time only settings are usually 38 weeks, how is yours on 31?
Sorry that's not much help, but it really depends on your local policies.

Honestly like that I have no idea!

My DS is going to nursery school in September, so 12.5 of his hours count as that. The remainder then goes to the childminder.

If you chose not to stretch it, you could get all the term time hours for free ,(27aweek) and pay the nursery during the holiday. That would be the simplest in terms of admin, but you would not be using 3 hours a week.
The only way to utilise all the free hours will be to ask if the nursery will stretch their portion of the funding.
Or stretch all the funding over the year at nursery and pay for pre school?

You need to ask the nursery and Pre school how many hours they can offer on each day.

It might be easier to think of it as 1140 hours over the year, rather than 30 per week.

If you take 10.5 hours x 2 days x 51 weeks that’s 1071 hours used up, meaning you could only use 2 hours per week at the preschool. It’s likely they would have a minimum number of hours you need to claim per day.

If you take 6 hours x 1 day x 31 weeks you will have used 186 hours, leaving 954 hours, or 18.5 per week to use at the other nursery. You’d have to pay for the other 2.5 hours

You can only use a maximum of 10 hours funding per day.

However, it is up to each setting how they choose to offer the funding. eg. the school nursery may offer funding between 8am and 2pm only.

You won't be able to work anything out until you know exactly what each setting is offering.
