Hi there,
At nursery today one of the staff said hows your *** condition? I was taken aback and ask how did you know about that, she just said well your childs health visitor mentioned you have it.

Is that not a breach of Data protection? I have never even told my health visitor about this before, guess she got access to my medical records.

If the condition is thrush that you ha da less art for 2 weeks ago - you would have a very valid reason to be angry

To address previous posters points
All under 5s are under a health visitor (‘universal service’) and would get a 1 year check, a 2.5 year check etc. Some children are deemed at risk, and have more involvement with the health visitor, i.e extra visits, liasing with nursery etc. So a health visitor having a discussion with nursery implies there are concerns

No just left it and did not complain as they will have some reason they can hide behind. My child has speech and language delays and possibly autisim which the nursery contacted the health visitor about. Then not long after the nursery manager mentioned my condition. Which I do not feel is relevant to the child but ofcourse the proffesionals obviously dont agree.

Is it a mental health condition?

nowtheretwo · 30/08/2018 15:56

I understand you cant help with whether its reasonable in my case without knowing the condition, but as other posters kindly noted the whole issue here was confidentiality.

The question on the forum has been answered on the thread which is if a HV believes that a medical condition that a parent has reasonably could affect the child then that gives the HV the right to look at parents medical records and share that condition with the nursery.

A Health Visitor would have access to your medical records, they work in tandem with GPs.

However she should not have told anyone at your child's nursery without your permission. More than that, the person who asked you about it shouldn't have told, never mind asking you.

Dreadful behaviour.

At the least, this has been handled terribly and you should have been informed of the information sharing that was going on behind the scenes. As for the nursery nurse, words fail me. Please do request answers if you feel able to OP, it doesn’t have to be a complaint initially if that feels too overwhelming.

Hallo - please please do report this.
As I live in Scotland I'm not sure where you stay but I live in Scotland too and would absolutely report this.
Don't be afraid to make a fuss. It is not their place to pass on information like that to your childcare provider.

Redken24 · 30/08/2018 16:30

You should let her conduct be investigated. In my role I have access to medical information and there is only certain aspects that are relevant. Please report this to her boss. If anything it can become a learning opportunity for other health visitors in your district with handling of information .
