Hi

I am a new mum and about to place my little boy in an asquith nursery. Does anyone know anything about them? Are some better than others? Are there any I should avoid?

Any advice is much appreciated,

FunMom

hi, I used one in Southampton which was lovely, albeit expensive ! no complaints at all.

Have you looked at other nurseries as well? We removed ds1 from an AC nursery (and placed him in a small family run nursery), but the quality of care will depend on individual nurseries and managers. I think the manager we had problems with is at a different nursery now- no idea whether she still works for AC or not.

dd is at one. She loves it there. The staff are great - everytime I collect her, whatever time of day, she is always chatting to a member of staff / having a cuddle / playing ...

I think all nurseries are different and have to be judged on their merits. I saw one Asquith nursery that I really liked, but was too far from our house and another which I didn't much like - the baby room was like a hospital ward - which was close enough. Ended up sending ds to a lovely private nursery...

My LO (10 months) has been going to an Asquith Nursery for 3 weeks and seems to be fine. But I do think it depends on the actual nursery, particularly the manager and the person in charge of the room that your son will be in.

My ds goes to Asquith Nursery in Caterham and we really like it. It is the only Asquith I have any experience of and it is fine. He has been going since he was one (two and a half now) and the baby room certainly wasn't like a hospital ward, it was very cosy. The main thing I like about it is there is a very low turnover of staff (one person that looked after him has retired in all that time I think) and they tend to be older/ more mature carers. Also the outside space is fantastic. On the negative side it is pricey and slightly haphazard inside in comparison to some of the really clean and clinical ones that would appeal to me, say, but the kids love it. My ds is thriving there I'd say and I was not a fan of nurseries initially (we moved him from another one that was dreadful).

I agree with the previous poster though - it is almost irrelevent comparing nurseries in the same chain - the individual character of the particular one you are interested in and your gut instinct when you go there are more important. Also, they spend much more time with the carers than the manager so they are more important.
