I have a quick question for all those people with 1yr olds at nursery, does your nursery give them coc pops for brekkie? I am a little concerned that my ds was given it the other day but I don't want to over-react by forbidding coco pops forever! Any advice welcome!

Talk to them. Tell them that it is not on

oooh that's bad, I would not be happy about that - not a huge problem in itself but shows a bit of a cavalier attitude to childrens health, nutrition etc which I think nurseries nowadays really are expected to know about. Have a word.

At DS' nursery chocolate crispy cakes are a standard dessert and according to his daily report he sometimes he eats a MOOSE!! (Spelling isn't their strong point btw)

Actually, DS's do make chocolate krispie clusters with the children occasionally -- but maybe once a month tops, not all the time. And as their fine motor skills have improved they seem have given that up in favour of making biscuits.

I;m really sorry if this seems like a hijack. I can sympathise with you. Felt the same when DD;s old nursery mentioned they put powdered flavorings (strawberry, choc) into the kids' milk to get them to drink it. FREAKED.

Moose is OK, though -- very healthy lean meat, like venison . Eating a whole one is pretty impressive for a preschooler, too.

HTHe nursery where I have been working recently.Give 12 month olds weetabix, ready break or rice crispies plus toast. Sometimes they have yoghurt and Croissents.

coco pops/ other sugary rubbish for breakfast are half term and holiday breakfast treats, if they remind me to buy them when we are shopping ....

Not at the nursery my two go to. Puddings sometimes have a sweet side but not too unhealthy eg pineapple upside down cake or peaches and cream, but never known them to have chocolate whatsoever at nursery. thats for bribery at home

We rotate wheetabix and rice crispies and then offer toast after cereal.
