Nursery with no cameras

A friend recommended them and they seem a pretty nice little team. Been around for 30
Years they said but no security cameras in place.

Is this ok? I mentioned it to the manager and she asked me if this was something that other nurseries I’ve ised had. (Yes of course)

What’s your thoughts please? Thanks a lot x

Ive only ever heard of one nursery with cameras and that was where neice went. Weird i thought. Parents get log ins to watch through the day.

A place with no cameras is a normal, healthy place for a child to be. And for you.

I don’t understand why you would need/want cameras. Why do you think they would be good?

EdithWeston · 04/05/2018 18:00

Yes, of course it's OK. Why on earth wouldn't it be?

not usual practice to have cameras tbh

I've worked in nurseries for 20 years and never worked in one with a camera
Not sure I'd be comfortable with having cameras watching as I worked

Ours has a camera outside but not inside. They have recently said that they're getting iPads so that they can upload short videos of the children to the closed facebook page like they do with pictures. You can opt out of this and they won't upload anything with your child in.

The nurseries I've worked in do have cameras and I'm more than happy with that. They're there as a back up for when an accident has happened and you need to rewatch, see if anything contributed to it. Also we have a main screen in the office that parents can look at to check their DC has settled ok before they leave, particularly helpful on first days/settling in sessions. Cameras cannot be logged into by parents though.

Main reason to have cameras are for safeguarding, both protecting the child and the staff member and that's good with me!

It's funny how some see cameras as a way to safeguard the children.

My first thought was 'ahhhhh that sounds like a huge safeguarding risk!' Who knows who would have access to them throughout the day, unfortunately not all parents can be trusted. No no no. Never would I have that.

My children went to a nursery exactly like you describe and I wouldn't change a single thing about it. No cameras. It was perfect.

Bonkers.

No cameras at DS2's nursery, it never occurred to me about having them before.
