Question about data protection at nursery

At my daughter's nursery the sign in sheet where we tick her in and out lists all the children attending that day in age order and all their dates of birth are listed alongside their names. Is the inclusion of the dates of birth on the sign in sheet commonplace at other nurseries?

The reason I ask is that many people will use their child's date of birth as a security answer for various things and I don't think it's sensible that a document listing the dates of birth of all the children at the nursery is just left lying around where anyone could read/photograph/pilfer it.I know it's unlikely that any harm could come of it, I just think it's not a good idea and don't see how it fits with the nurseries obligations under data protection legislation. I'm considering pointing this out to the nursery but was interested to try and get an idea of whether the inclusion of date of birth on the sign in sheet is common at other nurseries.

that's not quite right imo
our nursery used to do that, but then switched to a register that a nursery nurse in the room would keep.

Hi, my ex partner’s new partner runs a nursery and on a few occasions my ex has taken my kids there while he either has an interview or got things to do. I haven’t filled out any data protection forms agreed to this what so ever.. and they already go to a nursery which they love. She has taken pictures of my children again without my consent.. I’m just not sure if this is ok because my children’s dad is in a relationship with her or she would still need to follow the correct procedure? Just a bit un easy about my children being at a nursery I haven’t checked out first and don’t even know where it is help please xx

At my old nursery, the sign in sheets got removed from the parents area for all the reasons mentioned above: anyone could see who was in attendance, children's full names....Im not really sure of the exact legality but a few years ago that got removed and all signing in and out was done in the room by staff. I would just bring it up politely- you are concerned about all the information on display, you dont feel comfortable, can the register be assigned to rooms, theres no need for it to be where anyone can access it. TBH I am sure that they are breaching rules.

Amyxoxx - the nursery shouldnt be taking them in at all unless they are registered, by which I mean a parent has filled in the form with all their information on it. If their dad has parental rights then he can sign permision, just as you can with the other nursery. If they are left there without that then it is a breach, new partner or not. Photos also have to have permission at nursery. There should be a form saying "I give permission for my childs photo to be taken" and then you have to agree to the photos being used for journals/advertisements/social media/room displays/hallway displays/websit etc. Our parents also have to tick that they are happy for their child to appear (unnamed) in another childs journal, for example if a photo of children playing together or a group shot is taken.
Photos at nursery cant be used by your ex and new partner outside of nursery, they should be on nursery cameras not private. Your ex has the right to sign for all of this unless there is a court situation - if he hasnt there is a problem. Do you have a solicitor or someone who could check all this?

Thank you for the reply, no but I think I need to get one because on one or more occasion my kids have been left there while he pops out. When I asked about forms he said I was being silly! I’ll look into this further I just wanted to check I was right in what I was saying before I went any further. He is a very nasty person so I need to have all my facts x
