Ofsted guidelines for safeguarding for after school clubs

Can anyone point me to the Ofsted safeguarding guidelines that would apply to onsite after school clubs for reception year children? Or what would be considered good practice? There have been a couple of incidents of children not making it to the club and there seems to be no register either in or out. I'm concerned about this and also wondering what else might need checking - e.g. First aid, dbs checks etc.

The lack of registers is very worrying.

Could you call ofstead and tell them your concerns.

Thanks Nanny! I'm not sure if they are Ofsted registered for the clubs although obviously the school is. Would onsite after school clubs normally need to be Ofsted registered? The school is very responsive to concerns and we will raise this with them again but the club don't seem to have sorted it out.

I'm not sure to be honest if they do. They have to follow safeguarding practises and the staff have to be dbs checked.

Yes they would need to ne ofsted registered
The regulations they have to folow is the EYFS

Absolutely ring ofsted. If they are missing children and not filling in registers that is a huge safeguarding issue and they have to follow the same guidelines as any other setting. A complaint will generally trigger an in inspection so any issues will be addressed.

Do you mean a childcare provider or an activity club? The guidelines for specific clubs such as sport, craft, chess etc are run to different guidelines and do not always have to register with ofsted - If they operate for less than two hours they do not need to register.
A club operating for childcare will need to register but if they operate on the school site may be run by the schools governing body and be run by school staff
Worrying either way if children not delivered to the correct place by the school staff - they should be ensuring at the end of the day that they are handed over to a notified carer.

Thanks fine and soon. Yes it's an after school club offered by an external provider. Less than 2 hours so I guess doesn't have to be Ofsted registered, although the company has longer offsite camps that are Ofsted registered. It's not entirely clear at what point the children have slipped through the net but it's the only school club there have been any issues with as far as I'm aware.

It would be great to know if there are specific guidelines so I can check if the club is following them, if anyone would know where to find them?
