After I have surprisingly missed booking to an NCT class (this is my first pregnancy and I did not know that calling an NCT in the 10 week is already too late) and after having heard a lot of stories about how you need to apply to nurseries and schools even before the child has been born I have got a bit panicky Is it really necessary to do it so early?

depends where you live and what kind of nursery you want your child to attend
at some very expensive private ones then yes, i think you do, but at most of them, no, not really

and not all NCT classes have to be booked that early, is yours just fully booked?

I am in ISlington and the NCT is unfortunately fully booked, even the waiting list is full, so there is no chance at all to get in. I just also thought that the idea of booking into a nursery even before the child is there is a bit ridiculous

could you travel to another NCT? one of the ladies on our due in april thread was travelling an hour to NCT classes as she couldn't get on any closer?

I certainly could, however, I wanted to get on the closer one, so that I could get to know future mums from the same area where I live which would make it easier to meet up afterwards

You could still join the local NCT branch - they often run regular Bumps and Babies type coffee mornings which are less formal and on a drop in basis so you can still meet local new mums even if you attend antenatal classes elsewhere. Phone a few nurseries and see what their policies and lists are like.

i booked my DS's nursery when i was 6 months pregnant and i just got him in for when i wanted him to start. If there is a shortage of good nurseries in your area it does no harm to book in early and it is one less thing to worry about if you are going back to work

Thanks a lot for the messages! however, unfortunately Islington NCT branch is not offering any informal Meetings apart from ante-natal classes which I missed I think I will try to book in some postnatal classes
