Yikes...Nursery closed down due to E-Coli outbreak

shocked to find out our local nursery has been closed down by the HPA due to poss E-Coli/salmonella outbreak.
At least 10 children taken to hospital with dehydration over weekend.
Seems like the management knew children were ill last week and now looks like 100/120 children have had symptoms.
All children have to provide 2 stool samples.

Anyone know what the next procedures are for outbreaks of this kind?

Yikes indeed fuzzy! Hope your ds/dd is well. Have they said how long it's likely to be closed?

FuzzyWuzzyFuzzFuzz · 21/03/2007 15:04

closed until the Health Protection Agency and Environmental Health say they can re-open again.... Somewhere in Hayes who had a similar incident was closed 17 days....

I heard this too - from a mother at the pre-school gates who has friends with children there. The Hayes incident effected my friend's children - they weren't ill but ended up being home for ages = nightmare childcare situation.

A Nursery in Scotland was closed for a short time last year also due to e-coli.

Also very surprised as it was the Nursery attatched to the College where the NNEB course is done.

I hope your children are well.

My friend's baby 12mths old went to this nursery once (the Thursday before it was closed down) and ended up in hospital dehydrated as she has salmonella. Which is bad enough but the nursery didn't even let the parents know there was a problem, the hospital had to tell them. Should the nursery not have phoned all parents as soon as they knew there was a problem?

bloody hell

It was the mums first day back at work after a years maternity leave. Just lucky she took her baby to the hospital quickly or it could have been much worse-baby is now fine- mother still in pieces.

Possibly they were too busy spending the weekend clearing up the 'problem' and cleaning before the HPA turned up.
The cook is married to the Manager, need I say anymore
