DS has bruise on head after first day at nursery

I just read the thread about the LO who was bitten - a similar thing happened to us - today was my DS's first day at nursery and he banged his head. They explained that he was sitting down and reaching for a toy when he suddenly fell forward and hit his head on a plastic toy. He's only 6.5 months so still a bit wobbly when sitting but so far he normally falls either backwards or sideways or he gradually slumps forward, I've never seen him suddenly fall forward.

Anyway they said someone was with him and immediately gave him a cold compact, and he seems fine now, not upset or overly sleepy or anything - just has a very slightly raised red mark on his head. But should I be worried? The nursery cam recommended by more than one friend, and they do seem very good.

Anyway I just wondered if its normal for babies to bang their heads while they're gradually learning to sit/crawl (i.e. am I worrying about nothing?!) or should I be more concerned and see a doctor about it and have words with the nursery?

when my dd learned to sit up, and then crawl she was covered in bruises, from bumping into things, the same thing happened when she learned to walk. She has come home from the childminders with a mark on her, head, from a bump, but i do not question it, as I TOTALLY trust my childminder.
I think although its normal to worry, you are prob over reacting, but if you have concerns, discuss it with the nursey, so that you are 100% comfortable when you leave your lo at nursery.

yes its so typical(just unfortunate on the first day) even with a one to one carer you cant stop every little accident.
bless him he was probably so excited and nosey. he will have lots more accidents whilst he is exploring his environment, so yes i wouldnt be concerned just a little worried about him!

My dd got a bump on the first day as well. Remember feeling sick when saw her and having to tell myself to be calm!! I knew deep down it was just one of those things, but was very hard to be calm, especially as was feeling guilty about going back to work.

I am sure it was a genuine accident and as my dd has got older she gets more and more bumps.
