Tax discounts for nursery fee's

I went to visit a nursery today that I really like for my ds2 5.5 months old. They gave me a price list that quoted before and after tax nursery fee's. I work for the nhs and have heard of a voucher scheme but I was under the impression that these only apply for one chain of nurseries. Have I got this wrong and if so how do I go about appling for the reduced rate?

We have a voucher scheme through a comany called Accor. The tax laws have changed now the first £217 worth of vouchers you purchase each month are free of tax and NI.

You can use the vouchers at any Ofsted registered nursery or childminder.

because I do mine via my salary my company takes are of the tax and NI and I just see it as an increase in my net salary. Do the NHS have a voucher scheme?

Until last month (my ds started school) I was doing Salary Sacrifice through NHS. Nursery was on site and fees came straight out of my wages pre tax. monthly saving of about £150 on ft nursery place. The other option is vouchers as previously mentioned. If your dh/dp can get them too you can generally get about £450 between you pre tax HTH

babalon you need to find out if your employer offers vouchers some do some don't the alternative is salary sacrifice but that might not apply!

You need to talk to your HR/payroll people - if you can do salary sacrifice you can save a lot. I'm not NHS, but the deal here means the average employee here can get a nursery place worth £580 for £390 a month, which is a colossal saving. It does only apply to a limited number of local nurseries (not a chain though).
If you use the voucher scheme (which applies at any nursery/CM that'll take them) you'd pay £500 for the same place, so it saves some cash but nowhere near as much.

The info will probably be somewhere on your Trust's intranet.

The childcare vouchers are provided by a number of different companies and any nursery can register with them. Basically, you get a tax credit to go towards the cost of the vouchers.
