Cuts along nappy line from nursary! Need advice?!

Hey! Sorry for long post but I wanted to fully explain...
So I have started my own business and put my 1 and a half year old girl into nursary 4 mornings a week. It's been about a month now and she keeps coming home with scratches, only along her nappy line (side of her thighs). They are sometimes more like cuts (with dried blood)!! Shes had about 8 now!!! This never happened before nursary and I know it only ever happens while she is there - definitely not from home. The worst one was when she had jeans on for the day and I know it could only happen while she is having her nappy changed with bare legs. She is a bright and happy kid and settled in well. Of course I mentioned this to the nursary about 2 weeks ago but it's happened twice since then and they just keep saying they don't know how it's happening. I'm seriously losing my cool.
I don't believe anyone is maliciously hurting her but I'm past caring because either way she is being cut and hurt! I know it isn't being caused by their nappies because I have 'experimented' and there's nothing on the nappies to cause a scratch.

Has anyone ever heard of this or been in this situation? I'm mostly happy with the nursary apart from that hence why she is still there or of course I'd have taken her out by now.

Any advice is really appreciated as I don't know what else to do now if they don't know why it's happening (or so they say) Confused!

Any help Sad ???

Also they say they wear gloves to change the kids nappies so doubtful it would be a ring or something. Thanks for reading! Even writing this I'm wondering why I have allowed it to happen this many times zzz!

I would be very concerned about that.

There are all sorts of possible explanations up thread, but none are really plausible because I can't imagine any of them drawing blood - and not only that, but drawing blood on a daily basis.

Friction from nappy/clothes might cause abrasions, but not scratches.

Yeah deep enough to bleed is something else. Mind you I slipped when putting Dd's dummy in and scratched her nose which bled slightly.

Why is no-one listening to me??!!
It's definitely the way they pull the nappy off

We got this a couple of times with DS. Took us a while to figure out the cause, now it's blooming obvious Blush. It happens if the tabs on the nappy are trapped when you fold their legs over and the nappy is removed too quickly. When the nappy is then whipped out the poor mite gets a paper cut.

I'm listening Sandinmytoes and I agree with you.

Sandinmytoes - I was about to post the same as you- if the nappy is pulled off too quickly without the tabs and that whole line pulled back it can scratch. Sometimes when the tabs are opened and not folded back they get dragged over the thighs when the nappy is pulled off.

My DS used to get this occasionally. It stopped when we moved to pull ups. I had absolutely no idea whatsoever how it happened. They were really long and bright red looking - like an incredibly long very shallow paper cut so yes drawing blood but only just. I always keep my nails short and wear no jewellery. I'm glad I've read this, when we do use non pull ups I will be careful taking it off now.

Hi - I've caused exactly this mark on my 8 month old grandson recently. I didn't realise until after I'd change him but my nails are very rough around the edges (they are brittle and split easily). As I've changed the baby I've pulled the nappy fairly tightly over his tubby wriggly belly and caught his skin. It has left a very long, thin bright red scratch, just as you describe.
I work in childcare but wear gloves at work so it has never happened there.

Is someone being rough when they're taking the nappy off? Does your baby wriggle while being changed and someone is holding her legs down? I've personally come across a nursery worker who was being extremely rough with small children - she was fired. The thing is it's almost impossible to catch or prove
