Rejecting nursery place

We have accepted a school nursery place offer for our child who just turned 3.
Since accepting the offer we've been having cold feet, as day by day we were getting more information about school nurseries (number of children in classroom, high child-to-adult ratio, probability of reversing back to nappies after being fully trained, need to obey 'school rules', uniform code...etc) which corrected our seemingly false thoughts (thinking it would be as any other reasonably good nursery, except that it is within the schools campus).
Now school has started, and our child is still going to his same old nursery, as we have not dared to take the step of starting him in school nursery. We don't feel he is ready yet to take this step this year, or perhaps WE are not ready, but nonetheless the result remains the same: no school to start before reception year.
What are the implications of rejecting a place .after the school year actually starts? Can school still offer that place to someone else after school has actually started? We are not happy having to waste this place.

If the school has a waiting list, then they'll be able to offer the place to another child. Once you've formally rejected the place.

Have you visited the nursery yourself or are you basing your decision on anecdotal information.

I work in a school nursery.

We have the same ratios as a private nursery.
We take children at all stages of continence
There will be "rules" in any setting.

All nurseries are different.

If your child doesn't take up their place in the next week or so, you are likely to forfeit it anyway as you will not be able to transfer the funding after "headcount week".

Putting our son in the school nursery was the best thing we did. It was fun and informal, basic rules such as no hitting etc which I imagine would be the same in any childcare setting, and best of all he made good friends who he has gone all through school with. He was prepared and excited to start 'proper' school when the time came too.

Same thing here too - it was the best thing ever. Our DD blossomed in nursery and it made the start of reception a breeze. I had the same hesitations as you and I should not have worried at all.
