Can I use my childcare vouchers to pay for a friend's child's nursery fees?

I've got £1000+ sitting in my childcare voucher fund and there's a small possibility that I will no longer need to pay for childcare. I was wondering if I could use that money to pay for a friend's DC at their nursery instead and get the cash from them. Anyone know if this is possible?

I have heard of some employers who are happy to have the funds returned and then administered through payroll to the employee - but - I may well be resigning so there's every likelihood that they won't do me any favours, so I'm not counting on this as an option!!

No it's fraud.

Sorry as an attempt to be more helpful you can use them up til child is 15 so I'd imagine you could use £1000 quite easily on afterschool activities, clubs, summer camps etc

Ok thanks. My scheme says vouchers are only valid for 18 months and my children are 1 and 3!!

We will be relying on grandparents for childcare if/when I resign for a new job.

Oh that's a bit shit! Mine don't expire. Definitely don't do the paying for a friend's childcare though.

Our preschool is a charity - can I give it to them as a donation??

Yes I don't see any reason why you can't give it to the preschool
I would ask the voucher company first though about getting a refund

Yes, I would aim for the refund first. Then I guess I'd wait the 18 months to make sure we definitely don't need them.

You can't give it as a donation I don't think as they are to pay for childcare and it would mess up their books if they can't allocate it to childcare provided. If you can put forward a reason why you couldn't have foreseen the need to stop childcare, you may be able to justify a refund, it's worth asking.
