Moving up in nursery

Can anyone tell me what kind of things to expect?

Dd has just turned 3 and the nursery have decide she is ready to move to the 3-4 year old room and I agree that she is ready, however a little worried about how the change will effect her.

She has only been in nursery since June but went into a class where she had been attending a 2 hour crèche a few times a week so knew all of the staff and most of the children as did I.

On the other hand I know none of the staff and only the few children that moved up over the summer.

Reading that back I think it's my insecurities not hers that I'm worried about but if anyone has tips/what to look out for it would be much appreciated Grin

I found the moving up rooms harder than taking my LO in the first place. My nursery are very good with taking the children for tester days and they regularly swap staff for a couple of hours so even though I didn't know the staffs son did. He still had tears going to the 2yr old room but he is really excited to do his upcoming move to 3yr olds. Just make it exciting for her and try not to project your insecurities. She'll be fine

Thanks :)

Is there any thing that I need to help her do practically like shoes and zips and things?

I'm wondering how independent they will want her to beat this age

I'd have thought that's the room where they start working on shoes and zips rather than needing them to be doing it already.

Our nursery spends the last half term before children go to school doing things like having a day each week where they change into a "pe kit" to get them used to it, and they build up to the rest of it.

You'll get to know the staff- I'm sure they'd meet with you in advance if you wanted. It's all about working together to support your child.

My dd is moving up to the pre-school at her nursery some time before Christmas (haven't got a date yet) and they seem to be taking her and her best friend over most days at the moment to get used to it (it's on a different site though run by the same nursery, so there is a bit to get used to). She's loving it and can't wait to move! I think the time over there has been useful for this.
I'm not sure how different it is -better outdoor facilities I think, and slightly different types of indoor ones, and I don't think the children can nap - (I could be wrong on this, but luckily dd doesn't nap any more anyway!) I do remember a while ago the newsletter reassuring parents that there were still change facilities in the pre-school, so the dc didn't have to be toilet trained to move up. I guess this is standard
