Group for small villages

Hi
I live in a small village with no group for children under the age of 2. I feel that there is a need for a group for all the other mums in the village and surrounding villages for a once a week mother / baby / toddler coffee group where mums can get out for a few hours and chat and their kids can play. I no I could get the use of the school hall. What would all you other mums suggest? I thought about printing a flyer and posting through doors to see if other mums feel the same as I do before steaming into somrthing that could turn out to be a disaster! Any information and thoughts would be welcome!

Do you know any other mums in the village ? Could you not start up with just you meeting up and then spread the word to get others involved ? Also I think it needs to be for pre-school children not just under 2s - otherwise you cut out all the parents with children of 3 and 4 not at nursery or school. Why not talk to your health visitor about other people who might be interested.

Some good advice LizP, we already have pre school for children aged 2 and over, there use to be a group called little tea pots for the under 2's but closed when the leader moved away. Already know of at least 10 other mums / carers that would be interested which would make using our homes a bit impractical with so many children. My first thought was to have informal coffee morning with those I no are interested and banter some ideas around between ourselves. If we end up wanting to meet somewhere else like the school does anybody no if we have to pay insurance etc?

The informal coffee morning sounds a good start - so you all agree what you want to happen in a session and on costs etc. Why not ask the school if their insurance would cover you as a first step - if not maybe surestart or the pre-school learning alliance could help sort something out. What will you do for toys - does your village have a fund that could help - I know mine does but you have to apply at the right time of year or it is all gone. Good luck
