Hi there. Does anyone know when this officially stops from the gov. My daughter needs to stay in nursery til 19th September, before she starts settling in at primary school. Nursery have said the government only pays 'per whole term', but my new childminder says she can give parents dates within term -- if that makes sense. I have queried with the nursery, and they say it is their policy -presumably though if the government gives it within terms, then I am entitled and the nursery have to administer?
any thoughts or experiences gratefully received.
Thanks

I dontb think you can claim it for term they start school in
Settings claim the funding for the whole term, not for just a few daya

Can't you trek the school that your dd is doing full days from the start of term? You've left all this a bit late though.

MinesAPintOfTea · 02/09/2014 21:04

Sorry that wasn't very clear. The department for education has a policy that even if the school would prefer phased settling-in they have to allow full-time attendance from the start of term.

You need to speak to your local authority early years team to seek clarification. Different local authorities have different rules.

insancerre · 02/09/2014 21:22

I'm pretty certain that the money is not even there for the setting to claim once the child is enrolled in school
You can't claim the funding for another setting once your child is at a nursery school, so the same must apply once they start school
Your child will count as being on the school register as shdvis enrolled

Littlefish · 02/09/2014 21:45

insancerre - in my local authority, funding can be split between settings, even when one is a local authority setting, and one is a private setting.

However, I agree with you that I think that once a child is on roll in a Reception class, the funding will all be allocated there (unless the child is also enrolled at a specialist unit such as a S&L unit on a split placement).

Thanks for your comments. Not sure why it should be one rule for a childminder and another a nursery though, it doesn't make any sense.
I didn't leave it late, it's just I didn't know I would lose the hours until the nursery told me.

One or other is probably mistaken. Regulations from local authorities change and not everyone keeps up to date with them.

In my local authority, you can only be paid for children who are attending within a certain week. If a child has already left the nursery by then, then the nursery would not receive any funding for her, so I could see why they would be reluctant to take that child as they would effectively be taking her for free.

You need to get the facts from your local authority.

HSMMaCM · 04/09/2014 21:44

What Littlefish said. They would have to be with me on head count day for me to claim funding and it sounds like your cd would be at school by then. CM might find herself paying for your free hours out of her own pocket.

Leibs · 11/09/2014 20:24

Well, according to the council, we are entitled to those hours. So I have given the nursery all the details - and they are going to have to get their act together, otherwise they are acting unlawfully

Hi, you can keep your child in nursery until 5, so assuming they haven't been out on the school register before 19th September, I would assume this was fine. However the nursery may not have to keep her, if they have given her place to another child. Try asking really nicely!
