seems fine to me, but obviously I wouldn't be fine with it until i had seen it and stayed for a while to check it out

do you not like the menu, seems ok to me

WideWebWitch · 17/09/2006 14:28

There's an incorrect apostrophe on the front page and the menu, hmm

Monday
Lunch - Cowboy Hotpot, Fresh Fruit
Tea - Sandwiches, Crispy Cakes (wouldn't have crispy cakes myself)

Tuesday
Lunch - Potato Hash, Buns (why buns? where's the veg?)
Tea - Spaghetti on Toast, Fresh Fruit

Wednesday
Lunch - Chicken Fricassee, Scones
Tea - Cheese on Toast, Jelly and Ice Cream

Thursday
Lunch - Fishfingers, Waffles and Spaghetti, Caramel Slice
Tea - Sandwiches, Ice Cream

Friday
Lunch - Sausage Rolls, Mash and Veg, Cake
Tea - Crumpets, Mousse

In fact, there's no veg there is there, with the exception of Friday? And too many cakes imo, ideally I'd want to know they were homemade too, no hydrogenated fat.

WideWebWitch · 17/09/2006 14:29

And fishfingers, waffles AND spaghetti? I assume waffles are those vile potato things and spag is from a tin.

misdee · 17/09/2006 14:30

IMO, the menu doesnt offer enough fruit and vegetables, and too much ice cream.

trinityshiftingherleatheryarse · 17/09/2006 14:30

oops I'll just shut up then

NannyStar · 17/09/2006 14:33

Let me tell you I worked at this nursery. I lasted 1 day. It is horrendous. I would not let my dog attend daycare there.

are the kids playing in the car park?

BettySpaghetti · 17/09/2006 14:35

My observations were the same as WWW's - not enough veg and too many cakes and sweet treats.

I would also prefer to see alternatives to spaghetti (its there twice with a meal and on toast) eg. Veg

MissChief · 17/09/2006 14:36

they're very good at marketing - photo gallery, fair enough.

Like all nurseries, they make the most basic spelling/punctuation mistakes (shocking really, but shows literacy level of most staff).

They've got a huge garden which is great for the kids!

They're talking about "mums" only which i guess cd piss many people off (though it is realistic, IMO to say the huge expansion in childcare is due to increasing numbers of mothers as opposed to father working)

MissChief · 17/09/2006 14:37

oh, sorry, didn't even get to the menu, whoops!

MissChief · 17/09/2006 14:38

yeah, food mainly sounds like it's come straight from the freezer, again shockingly common in nurseries. Not awful, but not v encouraging.

MrsApronstrings · 17/09/2006 14:41

I think the menu is lacking veg - though I don't really mind the amount of sweet stuff I would want to make sure that my child wasn't allowed to just eat scones, jelly and icecream on wednesday for example - when there is no friut or veg!

I think the whole website doesn't really tell you very much - it talks in broad cliches - there are many mistakes which are imo quite bad - suggesting lack of attention to detail ( they offer the opportunity to learn french at Le ecole - well I haven't done french for 20 years but l'ecole - surely.) I feel this is somewhat nit- picky and yet think they do not care enough to get it right - its all dancing lollipop sticks - showy.
Having said that I would say you can't tell until you go - I have always used my insticts to choose nursery/preschools and have been happy and had somewhat mixed feelings exactly in line with my first impressions.

MissChief · 17/09/2006 14:43

gosh, someone at this nursery should be pleased - free feedback from MN. Wd cost a fortune if they'd commissioned it.

Beauregard · 17/09/2006 14:48

Dont like the menu

NannyStar · 17/09/2006 14:49

On my day of working there I was with the under 2s so from walking age - 2 yrs old. It was diabolical.

Children were eignored. At one point all the children in the room were crying. Children climbing on the tables and being left there or worse laughed at by staff and therefore encouraged to climb. 2 activities out in the room for 25 children. 1 little girl was so ill but parents were failed to be notified and left with me all day until someone very late on called her dad to collect her. For afternoon tea - sandwiches with jam on and pink wafer cakes for afters and juice to drink. Children unable to drink from cup without lid on were given cups without lid on thus one little boy getting his top wet through and despite several requests from me any of the staff including the room officer in charge failing to get him a new top. This poor little boy was crying all day and not getting any attention or cuddles of reassurance from staff. Children were walking around in the dining room with food in their hands - staff not bothering to sit them back down again. two boys hitting each other the head with plates - again staff just sitting watching this. Most staff in the room sat on their fat bottoms all day totally ignoring the little ones. I have worked in several nurseries before, one in which the care was deemed unsatisfactory and subsequently shut down and then this one which was absolutely disgusting.

sounds awful! why don't you report them to ofsted?

MrsApronstrings · 17/09/2006 14:51

Did you say why you were leaving? can you report it to ofstead? Feel really at the thought of the poor children there - and presumably there parents paying a lot for it!!

MrsApronstrings · 17/09/2006 14:58

Greensleeves · 17/09/2006 15:33

at this

that menu is disgraceful.

NannyStar · 17/09/2006 15:45

I have reported it. I emailed the owner to let him know why I wasnt going back. I got a reply by email which basically said that seeing as I'm supposedly experienced in the childcare field, it is extremely unprofessional of me to not attend to my role as nursery nurse with no notice given to him at all.

I wasn't ever going back to that nursery seeing those children suffer like that. 2 parents came to look around with their adorable baby while I was there and I prayed the parents could see how bad the nursery was and not put their child in.

well done nannystar.

NannyStar · 17/09/2006 15:53

I have worked at a nursery in Greater Manchester also which was the complete opposite. Activities were very well planned, children were cared for extremely well, each given as much one-to-one time as ratios would allow. The main focus were the children. Meals were great - toast and cereal for breakfast, lunch was cheese and broccoli pasta, ravioli, homemade pie, mash and peas, meat and veg casserole, fish pie and carrots with things like mullerlight yogurts, jelly & ice cream, fruit crumble and rice pudding for dessert and then for afternoon tea cream crackers with cheese and ham/tuna/salad sandwiches with soup with the same type of desserts as lunch. This was a fabulous nursery and I would actually send my own child if I had one there.

really glad you have done the right thing and not gone back there.by staying you would be making them think that you agree with how things are done there.my youngest hasjust finished a brilliant nursery where i havent had to make one complaint or worry to them.he was happy everyday it was obvious that the children were looked after.nurseries like this should be shut down, they dont deserve to look after children with those attitudes.good on you
