How many nurseries did you sign up for?

I am aware that places in nurseries can be scarce - so I decided to put DS (due Sept) down for 3 different local places, and then pick the one I liked best, nearest the time of starting(on the condition that a place was offered in each).

Is this normal practice? I live in Central London.

I would look round 3 or 4 then choose which one I liked best. if you accept a place they may ask for a small holding deposit.

That sounds about right ... for me, distance was the main consideration, so that only gave me a choice of about 3.

Got 4 rejections. Still havent heard from the other two. But one no turned into a yes because it was an afternoon place that no one wants! But its a great school. We are North London.

wow mustrunmore - that's amazing. I think I'll have to find some more in case we get completely stuck...its not until he's 18 months and I'm being very ahead of myself signing up. how much time did you give it between requesting the place and needing it? thanks for your response!

Well, he'll be 3 in November, and we applied when he was just over 2. Some we applied for would start him straight after his birthday, but the one he's going to doesn't start him till January.
