Paying for nursery when closed !!!

Can you guys help advise me. My little boy goes to an amazing nursery 3 days a week and I understand that when I'm on holiday and take him out I should pay as I need to keep his place open. However where I get confused is when we have a bank holiday and nursery is closed I still have to pay for that day. For example Easter Monday I will be charged my normal monthly amount. The full year is broken down so we pay 50 out of 52 weeks ( Xmas we don't pay). But all other bank hols we do. Is this level ??

Any help is greatly appreciated. Smile

It's because the largest proportion of nursery fees goes on staff costs, and staff are paid for Bank Holidays even when nurseries close.

Staff have to be paid the same amount even.if nursery is closed..

This should of been in the contract when your child first started nursery

My nursery doesn't charge for BHs

insancerre · 11/03/2014 12:57

pretty standard for nurseries

GreenGoblin0 · 11/03/2014 20:30

My nursery doesn't charge for BH or other closure days either (eg inset days) but it is part of a sure start centre so council run.

addictedtosugar · 11/03/2014 20:56

We pay for BH as well.
It was one of the reasons I didn't put DS1 in on a Monday when I was on ML with DS2 - he was in 2 mornings a week to keep the place.

The alternative is to charge more for a day rate, and than have BH "free". Full timers would pay the same, you probably get a slightly poor deal. Can you change your days? Mondays are the most common bank holidays.

Littlemisstax · 12/03/2014 16:25

Ours charges BHs and is now open 52 weeks a year which is a nice way to increase income without increasing the daily rate We've changed DD's days so she no longer goes on Mondays.

tallulah · 12/03/2014 20:00

The first nursery we used didn't charge for BHs, but the next one did. Standard practice I'm afraid.

cookielove · 13/03/2014 08:04

We don't charge for bh, but we do for short term illness and holidays. It is standard practice.

Sirzy · 13/03/2014 08:06

Those that don't charge for bank holiday probably just charge slightly more for normal sessions to cover the costs for the bank holidays!

2beornot · 13/03/2014 08:16

Yep, we pay for 51 weeks of the year and get no reduction for BH or training days. Bit annoying, but like others that's why dd doesn't go on a Mon!!

2beornot · 13/03/2014 08:16

Although i often wonder how parents who work BH manage?!

andadietcoke · 13/03/2014 08:19

We pay for bank holidays and for when the nursery's closed between Christmas and New Year, but you can pay swap that session to any time within 8 weeks. It's the same for holidays but you have to pay £5 for those.

LIZS · 13/03/2014 08:39

normal . Most employees get paid for BH's when they don't work so this isn't really any different.
