Funded Nursery Places for 3 year Olds - anyone know how much you get?

My ds will be entitled to a funded nursery place from September. He is at a private nursery for 2 days each week - so that's 4 funded nursery sessions a week that I can claim.

I understand that you can claim for 38 weeks each year.

Does anyone know how much you get per week, per session?

Thanks

its 2.5 hours a day 5 days a week hth

ledodgyrobespierre · 09/08/2006 13:30

I'm not sure money wise but I think you are entitled to 5 x 2.5 hours.

bundle · 09/08/2006 13:31

you don't actually "get" the money, it's deducted from whatever you would be paying, so our 3 days a week at nursery has xxx amount deducted (ie 2.5 hrs per day, as if she was doing 5 days a week)

KristinaM · 09/08/2006 13:36

at our nursery its £19 a week. but I dont think its as many as 38 weeks a year??? ( not sure)

bundle · 09/08/2006 13:40

I think it's just term-time only (can't remember if it's 33 or 35 or 38...aaghh) but our nursery evens the payments out, through the year (we are open for 50 weeks/yr)

coppertop · 09/08/2006 13:40

Hopefully someone else will able to tell you when it will happen but the plans are to increase the number of weeks of funding you can claim. Atm I think it's about 33 weeks but it's supposed to be increasing to 38(?) weeks.

Gingerbear · 09/08/2006 13:45

the amount is a percentage of whatever the nursery fees are based on 5 x 2.5 hours per week for 33 (or 38??)term time weeks. DD was 3 full days per week and the saving was £107 per month.

LIZS · 09/08/2006 13:51

It is measured in hours not an actual cash value(ie. related to the fees) but I think there is a ceiling on it. If he attends for more than 2 * 2.5 hour session per day (ie. over lunch) you may still have to top it up.

We got around £430 per term off dd's full time school fees, which was probably a bit under £40 for each term-time week. It is claimed by the nursery/school then offset against the total cost of the bill, so you pay for the difference , which can be done in several ways depending how the invoicing is done.

Thanks.

When DS was at nursery I was able to claim the 5 sessions in my 3 days. I think the annual cash saving was about £1200. It was 33 weeks but as already posted is/was set to increase to 38 weeks.

Maretta, the actual cash deduction varies according to the level the local authority has set it at - so for example will be (slightly) different in Kent vs Surrey. Also, LA's are treating the whole 33/38 week thing differently - so in Kent, all nurseries will have to open for 38 weeks from Sept 07 whereas in Surrey that will be voluntary. Kent will only pay for 33 or 38 weeks, nothing in between, where Surrey will pay for eg 36 weeks if thats how long your nursery will open! All of which adds up to a long confusing answer to what I know was meant to be a simple question - sorry! Basically, you are supposed to get up to 5 2.5 hour sessions free per week, up to 38 weeks per year, and top up fees are changing too so your nursery shouldn't be charging disproportionate amounts for any extra time your ds attends for. HTH a bit...!
