Leaving nursery - gifts?

My ds has been at a nursery for 2 years and is due to leave on Friday. What is the norm as far as giving gifts to staff, etc, is concerned? Any ideas pls?

Personally I would only give a gift to someone with whom you/DS has built a special relationship. But I am a bit of a misery like that. Maybe a homemade card from DS to say thankyou and byebye.

When DD left her last nursery, after 2 years (she started at 20 weeks or so), I bought the nursery a selection of outdoor toys from ELC. They had their 3 for 2 offer on, so I got lots of balls, skipping ropes, etc

DD is leaving her second nursery - again after 2 years - in a couple of weeks. I will be buying a present for the nursery again. Not decided what yet!

Neither of DD's nurseries had a big key worker type system and all the women their help in the car eof DD, so to me a present for nursery was more relevant than one for the staff.

Thanks for the ideas - much appreciated - I like the idea of buying a present for the nursery but with the rate we've been paying don't want to feel like I'm letting the owner off the hook when it comes to supplying new stuff!!

What about one of those read aloud books - the over sized ones?

hi, i was going to post about this. i am going to buy a big box of posh biscuits or somethign for the staffa nd bake some buns for the kids. is that abit mean?

hulababy · 07/08/2006 13:27

Not mean; sound slovely.

Just check about the allergy issues with the nursery - for the children's buns.

pesme · 07/08/2006 13:29

i initially read that as slovenly!! and was outraged!

thanks for hte vote of confidence i find these things really hard. am dreading saying goodbye to them all.

hulababy · 07/08/2006 13:30

Know how you feel. DD has really loved this nursery and it'll be a sad day when she leaves for th final time. DD know she is leaving but I don't think she fully appreciates that this means no more seeing her friends, etc. She starts school instead come September.

I'm a bit sad about all my sons little friends leaving to go to school too, have started preparing him. Some are a year older some going part-time to nurseries attached to a school (not an option for us because of work) when he left last time I gave big box of yummy biscuits for the staff and a cheque to the nursery to spend as they wished (it is a very trustworthy charity so knew it would be well used and they get things cheaply via nursery only catalogues etc)
