Nursery Layouts.....what works well?

Katymac · 02/08/2006 20:37

As you know I am in the depths of planning a nursery

What layouts work really well?
What is a bad idea?

How would you change your nursery?

Whether you are a Parent or Work in a Nursery I would be interested in your opinion

TIA
KMc

Youve got me sketching now, I can get it all to work but it probably takes up 200000ft2 and no where near enough loos .

Skribble · 03/08/2006 21:39

Iv'e got the centre area as more of a hexagon a circles are difficult to put doors in and very expensive to build.

Katymac · 03/08/2006 21:39

Can you email it to me?

I'm getting quite frustrated

Skribble · 03/08/2006 21:42

Its just skribbles , need proper dimensions, sqft per room, number of loos etc. Ok I am getting carried away. I will try a legible sketch.

Katymac · 03/08/2006 21:49

Under 2's 21 sqm
2-3's 20 sqm
3-5's 37 sqm

2 boys & 2 girls loos

Disabled loo plus staff loo (must have both for male & female staff)

4 other loos

Large kitchen 6x3?

Office 3x3?

Staff room 3x3?

Storage 3x3?

a room for out of school 30 sqm

Does that help - it didn't for me

My DD's go to a nursery that has its toilets within the main room, they also have a massive free flow room that covers 2-5 which imo is abit of a bad thing but has it plus sides too.
DS went to a nursery that had it toilets central to the 3 rooms. But reguarly did I see children in there unsupervised making a mess.

Xena · 03/08/2006 22:13

Have you heard about pp yet?

Katymac · 03/08/2006 22:15

No tomorrow I should know whether or not it is worth applying for PP - I'm SO scared

I hate working out sqmetres, especialy with all the hexagons and pentagons I have ended up with.

All I am missing a store area, but each room will haveits own cupboards and the central area has a store in the middle for trikes and big toys. I can do it very rough not with sq m. I will try to do it in draw so it is legible whats your e.mail?

hi Katymac
just reading your thread so you have 4 rooms
is this 4 rooms for the children or do you need these rooms for kitchen, staff room etc
all nurserys i've worked in have mixed toilets for 0-5yrs
read you want after schoolies too so you will need boys and girls for them
we had one staff toilet in the nursery where i worked with a little sink etc
building doesnt sound too big to include the age range you want why not cater for 2yr and up or for 0-5yr only

Katymac · 04/08/2006 12:32

It's for a school to provide 8-6, I need to have from birth to make it economically viable - so can't change the ages ranges

Have to have male staff toilets as well

3-5 loos will be mixed but will also need boys & girls loos

The planning officer had to cover someone's sick and can't visit the site until MONDAY

OP posts:
JackieNo · 04/08/2006 16:31

Do you definitely have to have male staff toilets? Our nursery just has two adult toilets for staff and parents (if necessary) - one is a disabled one, and until last month they used to have a male member of staff. Purpose built nursery about a year ago.

Katymac · 04/08/2006 16:32

I was going to have 2 ordinary loos and a disabled/mens.....maybe?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 04/08/2006 16:34

Might get away with just 2 toilets then - not sure how many staff are at our nursery, but top capacity would be 100 children.
