Induction week muppetry, what next?

Have you ever pulled a kid out of nursery in the induction period? What's the usual form? Will we be held to our contract when they haven't delivered the care we were led to expect?

DS went in today for 2nd day. First day (hour only) was form filling and taking notes of routine. Today was supposed to be an hour of letting him get used to the place. The list is so long of the f*ck-wittage that went on that I won't bore you with it. Suffice it to say, the manager >agreed< with me that the place was unhappy and my specific problems were grounded. Boils down to the classic baby farming versus child centred care. We are paying for child centred and they aren't managing it.

I am going back with baby as agreed tomorrow to speak to the relevant staff and see if there is any hope they can convince us this is a one off. Would appreciate your experience, opinions, thoughts. Thank you.

Hi Merryberry,

Just read your post detailing the issues you had with the nursery and I have to say MAJOR alarm bells started ringing. I am sooo glad you trusted your instincts and got your child the hell out of there fast. The thing that really stuck out was the manager agreeing with you about the crapness of the place!!!

If the MANAGER thinks that the nursery they are running is a pile of shit then somthing is very very wrong.

I would strongly urge you to give ofstead a ring and relay your concerns to them. This place needs help. Fast

(I would like to think ofstead were already aware of how bad things are but the new system of not giving notice of inspection only started a while ago and not all nurseries will have been inspected since then.)

Hope you find your ds a lovely childminder really soon.

MerryBerry, how old is your DS?

Sounds like it is best to give the nursery a miss... glad you resigned early on during induction period, rather than a few months down the line.

Not all nurseries are the same, there are some good ones around. However, if your DS is not the type to settle in a large group environment, a Childminder or Nanny would probably be better. Good luck on your hunt for childcare.

Agree with Pinkandsparky... if the manager thinks it's bad, it will be bad! With chain nurseries especially, I find it's the manager who makes the place Good or Bad. If the manager isn't positive, then the nursery won't be good.
