Hi im currently doing my dissertion on parents perceptions of male staff, i currently work in an afterschool care setting with one male member of staff.

My organisation also has a nursery with 3 male staff.

looking for opinions on how you would feel about male staff caring for your child, also if there is a change in opionion for male teachers in primary and secondary education. My dissertation is looking to see if location, class, sexuality, age, marritial status and how many children you have changes opinions, pm me if you do not want to disclose these publicly.

Im also struggling to find previous research that has been carried out if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

ive not conducted the survey yet, was just looking to see a general opinon just now about how they feel leaving your child with a male working, what was your first thought were you vary at first? etc

My first impression was more surprise at there being a male member of staff (not in a bad way- but everyone else there is female!)- DH seemed more wary but happy enough when he saw how much my DS seemed to adore him!

According to a survey by the major providers group, men make up 2% of their nurseries' workforce and 98% of parents are in favour of men.

I think it would be a fab idea to have more male staff it would give children a good role model for one thing from a very early age especially those without a positive male role model in the family

My dd's nursery has a male carer in every room. I think it's great and they're fantastic (as are the female carers!). I really like the carer in DD's room, we even have him as a babysitter for DD as he knows her so well. Children have fathers so why shouldn't they have a male carer in nursery?

The is a male nursery worker at ds's nursery. He's great. Wish he had been there when dd was. I would like to see more men in nursery and primary schools.

As far as I know Jimmy Saville never worked as a nursery nurse

Some paedophiles are women, there were couple of women who worked in a nursery in Portmouth some years back who abused children. Anyway male nursery nurses are CRB checked.

Dd's private nursery had three men of varying ages. One was a young apprentice, another was in his late forties and the other one was in his twenties. All of them are effective at their jobs, which is the most important thing.

Ds nursery have a male nursery nurse. He's fab with the kids. Was a bit surprised when he started purely because he was the first guy and all the rest are girls. Jimmy Saville has never worked at my ds nursery so no not worried.

My DD's nursery has a male worker. He is great. Professional and caring. I don't care whether the people who look after my kids are male or female. I care about how well they do the job.

I have no problem with male carers whatsoever. Never have done.

There's a man working at DS's nursery. The children love him and he's very patient. He's got a steady girlfriend and seems to genuinely care about the children.
