How to thanks nursery for going above & beyond call of duty

DD has a right sided weakness, a speech delay, poor balance and has had a play plan since about 8months old. Along with occupational therapy and physiotherapy DD has made amazing progress but nursery struggled to keep up with giving the 1-2-1 so we applied for special funding. The assessor said DD didn't seem much different to the other kids, she was having a good day!

Thanks to the dedication of the SENCO and the painstaking effort of DD's key worker to collect evidence, as well as their input to our therapists to ask for reports we have been awarded five hours a week from now on, not only that but the case was so well written funding has been given for a year, not a term.

How the heck do I say thank you? Equipment for the school garden? chocolates? Cake? This will have a hugely positive impact on DD and her quality of life :)

ask what supplier they use maybe you can get them a voucher.

insancerre · 26/05/2012 08:17

Is it part of a chain? A letter to head office would probably get them some brownie points and maybe a pay rise. You could alwas write them a letter that they can keep and show to Ofsted.
Glad to read a good story about nurseries. Normally people just post to complain Smile

A letter to the staff and to ofsted and to the head office would be great for them..

Also maybe a voucher for the senco and the keyworker and i would say afew boxes of chocolates, some cakes, and sweeties for the team to enjoy at lunch!
Just a thank you card will be enough tho.. Its so great when parents actually thank nursery staff.. I saved the life of a 18 month old, he was choking and stopped breathing, i didnt even get a thank you or any acknowledgement at all from the parents!!!!
Hope ur little girl comes on in leaps and bounds xx

All of the above and a letter in your local newspaper if you have one. It's always nice to read a positive story in the press and it gives the nursery free publicity.

A home made card expressing how much you appreciate the effort put in means so much. Chocolates lovely too because kp and senco can share with other staff and say why they were given making everyone feel that their efforts are appreciated.

Don't get sweets for the nursery - they will not be allowed to distribute them to the kids. Also check same re cakes/chocs/biscuits - all fine for the staff but 'guidelines' mean that such treats are not given to children.Sad I used to bake a cake once a week with primary-school dc, and ice it, and the dc whose birthdays were in the week had a special assemby and a peice of the cake - until jamie oliver the government decided that a small peice of cake once a year was bad for them.

nannyof3 · 27/05/2012 18:59

Who said anything about the kids having them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its for the staff!!

BackforGood · 27/05/2012 19:42

Definitely a letter / card of appreciation which they can keep and use as a 'reference' if they wish to, but also some chocs for the SENCo and Key Worker would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all,

I am going to get a £10 garden voucher for the rooms which her key worker and SENCO are in. Making home made card with DD today or tomorrow and also writing to the manager,it's an independent nursery so no chain.

Still unsure what to get the two women though, a voucher (not sure what for) or a posh box of chocs, I.e. Not milk tray!

Card and something lovely is fine (and it is their job, lol). I used to sometimes take in a huge box of ice lollies near lunchtime on a really hot day. Up to the staff whether they distribute or keep in the staff room freezer to enjoy in frazzled moments.

Does dd have cp, slow? Are you in receipt of dla?

BiddyPop · 28/05/2012 15:52

I'd second the home made card, especially if you get your DD to do a handprint or footprint on it, or decorate it themselves. If you have the energy to do individual cards - even if just a handprint and "Thank You" for both ladies as well as a general one to the nursery, that would be really lovely, especially if a nice box of chocs or maybe a flowering plant went with it.

slowlyburningcalories · 28/05/2012 15:53

This really was above and beyond, they could so easily have agreed with the assessors report but they gathered evidence to get us the funding.

DD doesn't as yet have a CP dx, nor di we get dla, we never applied but i do wonder occasionally if we shoukd

DD and I made cards for the SENCO and keyworker today to give alongside a posh box of chocs and we have a voucher for each team to spend on garden equipment for their children.

I will also write to OFSTED to say that the support this nursery gives my child will give her the best possible chances for leading an independent life. Don't get me wrong the nursery is not perfect, and sometimes I have raised an eyebrow, but this has restored my faith :)
