Any managers/owners about for some advice?

I'm thinking about a career change to nursery/pre-school work and wondered if anyone could give me some advice as to the best way to go about it.

At present I'm a primary school teacher, I've taught foundation stage right up to year 6 (and everyone inbetween!). I've had Child Protection Training, regularly liase with outside agencies (police, ss, FISO's etc) and built good relationships with parents and carers.

I've become much more interested in the care of younger children since having DD and think it's an area that I'd really enjoy and hopefully be good at.

Any advice as to the best way to get into this area? Is there any way I can utilise my qualifications and experience? Would you be willing to take a chance on someone in my position? I'm going to try and find somewhere to volunteer (I teach part time) to check that it's the right move for me.

Any advice would be most welcome, thank you. Grin

Do an introductory letter and drop it in to nurseries in your area, they may welcome a volunteer & it will give you and idea of what's involved.

It's very different to teaching although the children are learning all the time certainly.

You may have better luck applying to nursery schools rather than Daycare nurseries, they tend to be run by teachers and often are more set up to school terms etc which might fit in better with your D when she is older.

Or get in touch with your local Early Years Development Officer for advice.

Good luck.

Why not look at becoming an Early Years Professional (EYP)?

Thanks very much to both of you.

Bossy I took your advice and contacted the Early Years Development Officer
and they mentioned the EYP, but couldn't give me a lot of info.

So insancerre your link was perfect Grin

Thanks again
