NW London nurseries - HELP!

I have booked my DS into Asquith Nursery but have heard mixed reviews about it. There is also a Teddies in my area but a lot less convenient than Asquith. I haven't visited Teddies yet, but when I visited Asquith the average age of staff seemed to be quite young and inexperienced and there were a lot of crying babies. I was told that there were a lot of new babies and that it wasn't usually like that, but recently another mum said she was told the same thing when she visited and now I feel a bit uneasy about the place!

Does anyone have any recommendations or advice?

It's really hard deciding on a nursery! DD has been at Asquith for a while and I'm really happy with the level of care, and have heard similar good reviews by other mums with babies and toddlers there. I know what you mean about the young staff, but I think that's the same in most nurseries. I visited Teddies but didn't like the atmosphere, I found the building a bit dark and old fashioned. One nice advantage of Asquith is the garden at the back which is quite rare. Good luck with your decision.

how old is your ds? Are you looking for a daycare nursery, or one open mornings or afternoons only?

HeyBaby · 16/01/2006 20:48

Pollyanna - DS is nearly 4 m.o. but will probably be around 10 m.o. by the time I decide to go back to work. We will be looking for full days rather than am or pm.

Stoofer - thanks so much for your response. It is v reassuring. I guess it is a personal preference but v hard to decide when you have no experience in the matter and don't know what is the "norm" (if there is such a thing!) ....

I have thought about it but I think I would have better peace of mind sending DS to a day nursery which has to abide by registration regulations etc with more staff (rather than one person), more infrastructure, QA/standards and OFSTED inspections. It seems to work out about the same financially ...

... can totally understand concerns about having more than one carer present for children ... but just wanted to say that registered childminders also have OFSTED inspections, with all the associated standards attached. Many of us are now Quality Assured, having proven that we can work to a very high level ... (will now sink back under my rock, just didn't want you to think we're glorified babysitters ...)
