was bitten 3 times at nursery on friday.

We picked her up at 5.30-6ish. We only discovered the 3 huge red and bruised bite marks when we undressed her for her bath at 7pm. You could see every single tooth outline and there was a bruise in the middle of each one. We took photos of it.

I know that alot of children go through phases of biting (DD didnt but i suspect DS will), and its not the first time DD has been bitten. Whilst i hate her being hurt, thats not what gets to me.

What annoys me is that they have a usual procedure of telling you and then making you sign and accident/incident book and they tell you how they and the parents will deal with it etc etc.

So either, they havent bothered to tell me which is pretty poor after such a nasty incident OR

No-one saw it happen which is even worse since DD must have cried out in pain and these bites indicate that she fought to get away and he kept coming back (2 on her upper arm - one over the top of another and the other on the back of her armpit) and no-one intervened because either they didnt care or there was no-one there.

Either way its not on.

I went to the nursery today with the photos and spoke to the manager - she is very nice and is equally appalled. I told her the name that DD said when we asked her - i said i didnt know if there was a child by that name and she said there was. She is going to look back through the CCTV footage anyway.

She said its never happened before. I reminded her that she said that last time we had a major incident when a member of staff gave DD macaroni cheese for lunch despite knowing full well she had a cows milk protein allergy.

Oh well, we shall see what happens.

Nope - 2 nappies in the nappy bag and a fresh clean one on her bottie - I'm a happy mama today!! Big scratch on her left cheek though, which they "couldn't recall it happening" - Mmmmm .......

She could well have done that herself..... glad she was clean and happy though

I have to say that I am shocked that the nursery failed to tell the parents of the child who bit, on the same day, or at least before today, nearly a week later. The other parents also need to know so that THEY can support their child and help work out why s'he is doing this.

Cynically, of course the nursery is going to tell you how upset they all are. I wonder if they would be if you weren't investigating this further. As we all know, children do bite, for different reasons but there is no excuse for the extremely poor lack of supervision/ lack of communication to both parties/ and lack of what seems like a policy when dealing with incidences of this kind.

I'd also be fuming if I was the parent of the other child who will now be told about an incident that happened LAST WEEK!

I wonder how the nursery would of dealt with this if you hadn't taken the photos.....

Just read about the scratch which the staff couldn't recall happening....... Good job you're leaving soon. I feel very sorry for the other children in this daycare facility. It seems from your posts, that there is a distinct lack of monitoring.

I posted this incident on this board, I think a while back: my ds was scratched so badly last year that the mark still remains on one side of his cheek, albeit now faintly. I had to meet with the owners to get them to ask the parent of the other child to cut its nails. Since then they have changed the policy on now letting both sets of parents know when these incidences occur. To me it's just common sense...

I would call ofsted, they have a legal obligation to tell you about any injury oir accident your child has while in their care!
I would be furious!

Haven't read all posts - so sorry if I'm repeating...
but they should have noticed - what are their staff doing? That could have been a more serious injury - aren't they watching the children? You can kind of imagine them not seeing one bite - but three????
That happened to my dd at nursery and it was a tiny mark, but accident form was filled in, and signed by us. They couldn't tell us ID of the child but they assured us the child was punished and their parents informed. Apparently, child can be excluded from nursery if this happens more than twice.

Our DD was bitten on her back with out the nursery knowing a few months ago - she also had nappy rash where she hadn't been cleaned properly!!!

She was fine when I pciked her up and it was only when I got her home and changed her for her bath did I notice.

We were appalled and the next day and a stern word, which did the trick.

This was the 4th time DD had been bitten and the first 3 times (all in one day by 2 different children) the staff said she didn't even cry so I can see how it couldhappen with out anyone noticing but...thats not what I pay good money to have happen.

Its great that thy have CCTV to resolve this issue.

My friends child goes to the same nursery and bites and I know she gets notes etc etc if anything has happened so I know that it will be dealt with correctly.
