Would it put you off if a nursery was right next to a railway line?

I've found a lovely nursery but it is right next to a moderately busy (trains every 15 mins or so) railway line

The play area outside is parallel to the line which is just a few metres away

I'm a bit put off by this but when I think about it I can't put my finger on exactly why (air quality? noise? safety?)

I'm wondering if I'm just being silly

Would this put anyone else off?

Not me, once Id asked to review the garden myself and seen how good the fencing was. Just ask, bet they've been asked odder.... They won't spend that much time outdoors in reality but worth checking it out with a good walk round it.

Thanks for replying, the playground has recently been redone and has a great big wire fence between it and the railway line, I'm sure it's fine

I think I'll give them a ring

bet the kids love it, i used to work in one next to a railway line and it was great for distracting new children, let's go and look at the trains!

wolfhound · 03/11/2011 15:42

Both my DSs would be ecstatic at that!

DottyandSpottyWot · 06/11/2011 16:11

My daughters nursery garden backs onto a railway line, but they have great fencing, and then beyond that is the original wall. She loves watching the trains!

moonbells · 11/11/2011 09:45

Wouldn't worry at all.

Now if it were under power lines, I'd definitely be bothered.

brettgirl2 · 25/11/2011 13:43

Hee hee yes its one of those things that an adult would see as hell but a toddler would just love.

MysteriousHamster · 28/11/2011 10:10

My son's nursery is close to a railway line but they have v.safe fencing and all the kids love trainspotting!

KateMiddIeton · 28/11/2011 10:12

I think DS would want to go every day if there were trains at the bottom of the garden! He has an ambulance station nearby which just doesn't quite cut it in his opinion.

mousymouse · 28/11/2011 10:12

I wouldn't worry about that. agree to checking the fence, though.
have a look at the whole place, if the staff/setting is great it really doesn't matter.

ChristinedePizanne · 28/11/2011 10:13

It wouldn't put me off - the kids will love it!

rushofbloodtothefeet · 28/11/2011 10:18

I'm sure it will be fine OP. However I did find the "They won't spend that much time outdoors in reality" comment from LaCiccolina curious. Why on earth wouldn't small kids be outside much. At my son's nursery they have free-flow play to the outside - even at this time of year. He spends most of his time in the garden.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/11/2011 10:37

Agree with everyone else. As long as fencing was good it wouldn't bother me and the children would love it. DD's nursery is also free flow and they're outside in all weathers if and when they want to be.
