I work as a cook at nursery that my son also attends 20 months old.... i picked him up today when i finished and walked to the car he seems to be struggling to walk, when i picked him up i realised they werent his shoes and were so on the wrong feet the velcro was the opposite way!!! I was quite mad really!! I went in and asekd who put them on him, one girl came marching up to the door with an attitude and stated we encourage them to do their shoes themselves!!!! well surely theyd be supervising shouldnt they instead of letting him leave with them on the wrong feet!!!!! was i wrong to go a bit mad at the fact theyd allowed him to leave with shoes on like that and they didnt even fit him!!!! Poor thing!! im wondering how she would have spoken to a parent if that had happened, im hopin ghse doesnt think coz i work there she can get away with speaking to me like that becasue at the end of the day i still pay childcare!!!!!!!!

I think perhaps you overreacted a bit. Of course they shouldn't have let him go home like that, but it's not a huge deal, unless you have other concerns about his care and this was the last straw? And were the correct shoes there when you went back, or had someone else gone home with your son's shoes? (BTW if he really put the shoes on by himself that's impressive for a 20 month old Smile

to be honest the girls there seem to have a very relaxed attitude to work and, and no one seems to know whats jobs theirs ect!!!

I wish he could put shoes on himself lol but he just looks at me blank when i get his shoes, like i said if they do encourage then surely theyd be there to correct!!! I was more horrified at the girls attitude tbh no one held their hands up and said it was them!! pass the book i think it was!!!

We encouraged our 2-3 to put on all clothes, including shoes, coats e.t.c i think the 18month to 2 room also encourages it to. However they are supervised and shoes are told which foot is which, or to switch them if they do end up on the wrong feet. We hardly every get a mix up of shoes, although it is not un heard of. We do pile all the clothes together, and all the room staff knows whos shoes are who, that tends to help things.

So i think you may have over reacted slightly, i don't see any need to shout, but just tell them your concerns.

Also children often do things at nursery they don't at home, i've had many parents tell me there children won't get dressed, lie still to be changed etc when they will at nursery.

I've even changed shoes to the right feet, when they have come in the morning, so it obviously is easily done

I don't think you have over reacted, especially given how they reacted to you. Of course they can let them mess around with trying shoes on but at 20 months its ridiculous to think he would do it properly so they should have noticed but I think its their attitude that would have annoyed me more as well.

I imagine it is hard to work in the same place and yes they probably would talk to you differently so maybe overall that is the real issue.

You over reacted putting shoes on the wrong feet is easily done. You could have just mentioned it ther next day hardly any need to go back in.
