Been asked to be involved in setting up a 'Friends of' group for DS nursery - any tips? Not too sure what they are all about but wanted to support them in starting it!

I presume they're partly for social purposes and partly for making sure the nursery maintains it's standards. Fund raising could be handy for publicly or charity funded nurseries.

We used to have one at our nursery, but it folded because of lack of interest.
It was mostly a social thing, arranging body shop evenings and organising the float entry for the local carnival.
Nurseries are keen to prove to Ofsted that they work in partnership with parents and it doesn't do the children any harm to see their carers and parents together on social occassions. In fact, it has been shown that there are positive benefits to maintaining relationships and raising standards for children. It's also fun.
