First settling in session on Fri ... any top tips?

I've been utterly relieved at the thought of moving on from our current method of childcare (not nursery) for about the last three months since giving notice. However, now the first settling in session at my DDs' new nursery is on the cards in the next couple of days I'm getting some nerves.

I trust the nursery and I feel positive (logically) about the setting but I'm worried that my youngest (10 months) will cling to me and scream, which usually sets off her sister (27 months). It's normal to have some jitters, right? Will the nursery mind if I ring them tomorrow (Thurs) to ask them all the nagging questions I've got in my mind? I hope my toddler behaves .

Does anyone have any ideas of words of wisdom or experiences to share re: the settling in sessions and the first few weeks of nursery? I'd really appreciate them Xmas Smile

Yess!! But please the best thing to do is just walk away, please don't loiter because the nursery nurses will find it hard to try and settle her if LO knows you're still there.

I know it'll be very hard for you though but really they'll be fine! You'll be sadder than them!

jitters absolutely normal :) i took along a list of questions as was certain i wouldn't be able to remember any of them when faced with reality of leaving LO there, and the workers didn't seem phased by it at all. Mine's been going for 5 weeks now and although still cries when i drop her off she settles after 10 minutes or so. My main tip would be have something planned for you to keep you occupied or you may find yourself sat outside the nursery a few hours before the arranged time to pick them up...or that may just be me ;) hope it all goes well.

Confused
FrozenNorthPole · 15/12/2010 23:36

Hi! How are you doing? Thank you for that - I think I needed to be told it TBH because I do tend to just try and settle DD2 with a breastfeed so can envisage the staff trying to tactfully pry me off her ... Shall I ask, when I ring the nursery, whether there's anything I need to stick around for in the office or whether hotfooting it to the garden centre 'round the corner for some coffee is the best bet?
