You know those mats they sleep on in the 2-3 year old rooms ?

How would you feel if you found out your 6 month old had been put to sleep on one with a sheet they change regularly, so by that i assume not for every child at every sleep ?

There are three nurseries within a 3 mile radius which I think is the issue, one is very shiny and new but does things to a strict schedule, it's 10am put down the paint brushes it's play doh time that sort of thing which I don't like.
That and we are in an area supported mainly by the public sector so I wonder if mums take longer than usual for maternity leave, why wouldn't you.

If you are worried about the ratios/ supervision and what is actually happening, can I suggest you or your partner make an impromptu visit one day - i.e. around say 2pm and don't tell them in advance? I know it's a real pain if you're working, but you'd probably find out more to either set your mind at rest or confirm your worries in that one vist than ages of discussions.

Could you not look again at CMs if the one you want isn't available? We've had a great experience with CMs.

I am a childminder. My main concern with this would be the breath-ability of the mats. Cot mattresses are especially designed so that if a small baby is face down they are less likely to suffocate if they can't adjust their position. If it's the sort of squishy gym mats I'm thinking of it'd be very dangerous for an under 1,5 year old IMO to be on them asleep.

I would insist on him sleeping in a cot to be honest.

Yes those are exactly the mats i saw. I am insisting on a cot being brought down and shall spy through the window Grin

i am a childminder and i think that is discusting! we sleep our children in cots until their parents request otherwise or they are able to get out of the cot! Ofsted would have had a field day if you had told them that! They want a home from home environment and you would not sleep your child in a playroom when other children are running around. its difficult to sleep older children in childminder setting but babies shouldnt be a problem in any well run nursery or childcare setting.

@donzo21 - this thread is 18 months old - why on earth are you resurrecting it?

No you cannot accept checking every few mins. . What is the critea for every few mins? bearing in mind one persons idea of few mins may differer vastly from another If the child was in a safe place ,would it not be better for all concerned? The child needs a safer place and specified time of obs.
