helo..
I went into a nursery last week and have a few qns that needs to be answered. I am working 22hrs per week but only putting my child in the nursery for 16hrs in a week. My nursery said that my daughter would be eligible to get 15hr govt grant and dont have to pay the full amounts so would i still be eligible for the working tax credit after that?

Yes you would still be eligible for your working tax credits after that. All three and four year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery education for 38 weeks of the year. This applies until they reach compulsory school age (the term following their fifth birthday). Free nursery education can take place in nurseries, playgroups, preschools or at their registered childminders.

This I believe is to give kids a better and earlier start away from parents and to prepare them for school (and to encourage some parents back to work).
Not sure if you pay it and they reimburse you or whether the nursery claim it directly off the goverment as my son is not yet 3. You will have to pay the 16th hour yourself but may get some help towards that depending on your circumstances.
I have a friend who is a working single parent and the goverment pay around 80% of her child care.

For more information about free nursery education contact your Family Information Service (FIS). The FIS provides information, advice and assistance to parents, carers and professionals on the range of children, family and young people's services available within their area.
